With heavy hearts, we share that Richard Sperlich passed away on Wednesday, October 7, after courageously facing several health challenges over the past five months. He was surrounded by the love of his family, who were by his side. Richard would have celebrated his 87th birthday at the end of this month.
Richard was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and moved to the area at an early age. It was here that he met the love of his life, Betty, while they were still in grade school. Their love story began at such a young age and lasted a lifetime. They remained devoted to one another until Betty's passing in 2022. While our hearts are broken to lose him, we find tremendous comfort in knowing that Richard and Betty are together once again.
Richard retired at the age of 62 from Rinker Concrete after more than 25 years of dedicated service. To say he knew concrete would be an understatement. He knew just about everything there was to know about it, and if something wasn't done right, you could count on Richard to let you know! His honesty, knowledge, and unmistakable personality were simply part of who he was.
Richard believed in enjoying life. He was an avid NASCAR fan and never missed the opportunity to attend the Daytona 500. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge in Ormond Beach, where he enjoyed the social gatherings, friendships, and member cruises. Richard was always ready to have a good time, share a laugh, and strike up a conversation. He truly never met a stranger.
He leaves behind his children, Michael Troy, Bryan, and Pam (Steve); his grandchildren, Melissa (Jared) and Michael; and his great-grandchildren, Antonia and Angelo. His presence, stories, humor, and larger-than-life personality will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Although saying goodbye is incredibly difficult, we take comfort in the many wonderful memories he leaves behind and in knowing that, after a lifetime of love, Richard is reunited with his beloved Betty.
Arrangements are currently underway. We are truly grateful for the love, prayers, kindness, and support being shown to our family during this difficult time.
