Robert D. “Bob” Straughn passed away on November 9, 2016. We had 38 lovely years together, since our anniversary is November 11. Can you say roller coaster ride? Absolutely! The memories blend and swirl: hamfests, anniversaries, birthdays, moving, camping, church, working for others, vacations, family reunions, working for ourselves. There are stories to recount – sometimes over and over. A single phrase will serve as a reminder of some of Bob’s favorite lines. I cried all over the poor deli clerk last night, New Year’s Eve, thinking about how I used to make sure I had ham and black-eyed peas ready for New Year’s Day eating. I was also heard saying, sorry Babe, not gonna buy any greens this year!
As Bob often said, ham radio is not just something I do – it is who I am. Bob got to travel the world by just visiting with all those around it via the airwaves. I am continuing that, and the Orlando HamCation this year will be a sort-of memorial to Bob’s memory. Hope to see many of you there! Our booth will be in its customary position. Write me if you need directions.
It also comforts me to know that Bob is resting with the Lord now. He loves God something fierce, and when it was time to go Home, Bob didn’t have to linger here in pain. New body – new life! And he has eyes now too. Yippeee!
I appreciate all those who have written, called, posted a note, or invited me over. It is providing a lot of comfort. My family has been amazing. Hang on to your loved ones, folks. Life has a way of changing in an instant.
Thank you again for all you are doing. Hope to speak with each one of you soon.
Love and God Bless!
Helen
