

She was the first-born of Oscar Turney and Mattie (Cook) Turney of Cullman, AL. She is survived by her daughter Linda (Stephen) Mills of Palm Coast, FL and her son Michael (Patsy) Steele of Cullman, AL. She was predeceased by her husband of 42 years Emory James Steele in 1983, he was a WWII veteran and a union-teamster. She was also pre-deceased by her father, mother, and her step-mother Flora Turney Blankenship, four step-sisters and one step-brother.
She had three grandsons James Tyrone, Shawn Eric and Michael Gregory Steele, a step-grandson Greg (Tina) Mills, a step-granddaughter Marcia (Kevin) Smith, and seven great-grandchildren Alayna and Kalie Mills, Katelyn and Nicole Smith, Austin and Maykayla Steele and Mason Steele. She also leaves behind a sister Dora Pope of Cullman, AL, a half-brother William Pfeil of Hanceville, AL and two step-brothers Walter Turney and Daniel Turney of Vinemont, AL.
She resided most of her life in Homestead FL after moving there in 1949. She was a hurricane Andrew survivor, moved back to Cullman in 1995 and returned to Florida in 2006. She was a member of South Dade Baptist Church in Homestead and later White Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Cullman. She was a firm believer in Christ’s Salvation and lived her faith every day. She was a homemaker and a gifted cook and baker; she also sewed and crocheted many beautiful things. Of all her talents, gardening was a true passion and nothing brought her more joy than flowers that she planted wherever she lived. She lived a good life; she was always full of hugs and kisses for all. She witnessed her faith to many and will be sorely missed by all who knew her and her strong, quiet spirit.

A Visitation will be held from 2-4 P.M. on Sunday December 5, 2010 at Volusia Memorial funeral Home, 548 N. Nova Road, Ormond Beach, FL.
In Miami, friends may call on Monday, December 6th, 2010, from 6 PM to 8 PM at Palms Woodlawn Funeral Home, 27100 Old Dixie Highway, Naranja, FL 33030, 305-247-4218. Funeral Services will be held at Palms Woodlawn on Tuesday, December 7th at 11 AM with interment to follow at Palms Woodlawn Cemetery at the same location immediately following the Chapel Services.
