Stephen (Steve) Puckett was born in Cartersville, Georgia and moved to Florida with his parents, Samuel and Elizabeth Puckett, when he was a teenager. He graduated from Seabreeze High School in Daytona Beach in 1971 and later served in the United States Army as a military police officer, stationed in Berchtesgaden, Germany. After serving in the Army, he returned to Florida where his service continued as a paramedic for Beacon Ambulance and EVAC Ambulance. He was one of the first paramedics to work in the pits at Daytona International Speedway and enjoyed that duty for about 25 years.
When he left his work as a paramedic, he opened a retail store, Bed and Bath Factory Outlet. After that, he and his wife, Cynde, owned Ormond Gift Center, a souvenir store on the beachside in Ormond Beach. They closed the store in 2006 and Steve chose to work in the automotive industry, most recently working at Theresa’s Garage.
Steve was an active partner at Tomoka Christian Church in Ormond Beach, serving on the church’s Safe Team as security. He also participated in the church’s Beach Baptism ministry, baptizing hundreds of people over the past several years. Steve also served as the president and treasurer of the Tymber Crossings Homeowners Association.
Steve loved the beach and went as often as he could. His laughter filled the room and he enjoyed making other people laugh. He is greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. He impacted many lives with his own life —which had a focus on service and giving back.
Stephen is survived by his wife, Cynthia Puckett; his children, Charles Puckett, Samuel Puckett III and his wife Gail, Elizabeth Puckett, Andrew Folsom and his fiance, Sydney Baker; his grandchildren, Simone Puckett, Freeman Puckett, Ryan Puckett, Ethan Puckett, Jenna Puckett, and Bishop Rodriguez. He is preceded in death by his father, Samuel Puckett, Jr., his mother, Elizabeth Puckett, and his granddaughter, Camille Puckett.
A Celebration of Life for Steve will be held at Tomoka Christian Church on Saturday, September 18, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Tomoka Christian Church. Because of concerns about COVID-19, the family requests that masks be worn.
