Thomas R. Roe

Thomas R. Roe, age 73, passed away October 9, 2014 in Altamonte Springs, FL. He was born in North Wilkesboro, NC to the late Frank and Jane Roe, which he loved dearly. Tom worked for FPL as an engineer and head of the Right of Way Department, and was independent contractor for the telecommunication industry. Some would call Tom a workaholic, but he loved it. When he was assigned a project at work he always gave 110%. There was never an excuse for not finishing on time or getting the project done. His attitude was "If Tom Roe is on the project it will be done no matter what", “His word was his oath”. Tom was also known as a fighter, being a survivor of Colon Cancer and Triple Bypass surgery. Tom spent much of his life with a passion for Photography. He also loved people, food and just getting together to laugh and have a good time. He would do anything for people, un-selfishly without regard to himself and genuinely loved to get to know people. If you knew Tom, then you know that he had to negotiate on everything. If he bought something, he would haggle relentlessly until he got it for less, and never just bought one item he would negotiate the purchase of two, three or more of the same item. He plumb wore out many of salespeople with his relentless pursuit of not paying sticker price. Tom is survived by his sons;Tommy and David Roe, brother; Bob and Jim Roe and sister Margaret Brown. Also left to cherish his memory are his girlfriend Kathy, 2 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday October 18, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, 548 N. Nova Rd., Ormond Beach, FL 32174.
