

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Virginia Dees Armour, was called home to her Lord on October 29, 2021. Virginia was born July 29, 1922, to Alice Cranfil Dees and LeRoy Caleb Dees in Rockhill, South Carolina. She married George Arthur Armour, Sr. (United States Airforce, retired) on August 26, 1944.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents; husband; twin sister, Carolina Weeks; sisters Juanita Crump and Minnie Iola Weeks; and brother LeRoy Dees Jr. Virginia is survived by children: Delores (Tom) Opfer; Butch (Trish) Armour; Alma (Gerald) Sharp; and stepchildren, G. Arthur Armour (Brenda); and Dorothy Allessandro. Seven grandchildren also survive her: Polly (David) VanderBijl; Theresa (Timothy) Wright; Virginia Darleen Opfer; Jessica Lind Opfer; Margaret (Jeff) Zigenhorn; Amie (Timothy) Smith; and Randy (Reta) Szlosek. Thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild also survived Virginia. She is also survived by her special friends, the Nathan Neal family, and many nieces and nephews.
Virginia Armour retired from Woolworth’s lunch counter in 1984. She was the family prayer warrior and a member of the Salvation Army Daytona Beach Corp since 1932. In addition, she volunteered many hours for the Salvation Army Social Services and Rehabilitation Center, serving as a mentor to many who came through the programs. In 2004, she was named Volusia County Volunteer of the Year for her service.
A graveside service will take place Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at 3:00 PM at Volusia Memorial Park, 548 N. Nova Rd., Ormond Beach, FL 32174.
In place of flowers, the family requests donations are made to the Salvation Army, Daytona Beach Corp. 1555 LPGA Blvd., FL 32117 in Memory of Virginia Dees Armour.
