December 14, 1933 – January 22, 2020
Bill Miller, 86, of Daytona Beach, passed away peacefully on January 22nd at Halifax Hospital surrounded
by his family. He is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Catherine Eileen, his son, John, and his
parents, Catherine and Morris Miller. He is survived by his children, Catherine (Thomas) Kriner, Nancy
(Ken) Watson, and Michelle (Jason) Mykicz, 5 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
Born in Monticello, NY, Bill served in the U.S. Navy and Naval Reserves from 1952 to 1960. After his
service, he started his career at General Electric as a Technical Instructor and retired in 1993. He was
active in the Boy Scouts as both a troop leader and district commissioner in the 1970’s. He volunteered
countless hours with the Florida Highway Patrol Auxiliary for 24 years and retired as Colonel in 1998. He
was also very active over the years in the Lutheran church and served in many leadership capacities.
Bill enjoyed fishing, camping, golfing, bowling, playing cards, wood-working, traveling, and cruising. He
was a member of the Disney Vacation Club, where he and Eileen frequently enjoyed visits to The Magic
Kingdom and Epcot. He enjoyed watching Nascar racing and was an avid football fan of the Florida State
Seminoles, much to the dismay of his “Gator” family.
Bill enjoyed the simple things in life. He dedicated every possible moment to the love of his life, Eileen,
and to his family and his dogs. He was always a leader and teacher in whatever he chose to do and was
an outstanding role model for his children. He was very proud of his family and liked to brag about his
grandkids and great-grandkids.
Services will be held Monday, January 27th at Hope Lutheran Church, 594 N. Williamson Blvd., Daytona
Beach. The family will hold a viewing beginning at 9:30 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM.
The burial will immediately follow at Volusia Memorial Park in Ormond Beach. In honor of Bill’s love for
dogs, donations can be made to Halifax Humane Society in Daytona Beach or to your local animal
shelter.
