Bill was a WWII vet who served in Europe and retired as a Lt. Colonel from the U.S. Army Reserve. A member of “The Greatest Generation,” he was a devout Christian, who served his country with distinction and was always a dedicated family man.
He was a graduate of Bentley School of Accounting and Finance and earned his BA from Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. Early in his career he worked for Massachusetts Mohair Plush Company in Lowell, MA. Later he would accept a job with General Electric (GE) in Cincinnati, OH and in 1963 the company transferred him to Daytona Beach, FL. GE wanted him return to Ohio and not wanting to uproot his family he took a job with McDonnell Douglas. He would finish his career with the Orange County School Board.
Even in retirement he kept busy doing what he knew best. He kept the books for Christian Prison Ministries and Baldwin-Fairchild Cemetery and Funeral Homes both in Orange County, FL. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Holly Hill, the Daytona Beach Shores Lions Club, the Reserve Officers Association, and the Orange County Sportsman Association where he was a past President.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Helen (Loyd) Oddie and a daughter, Ruth Oddie.
Surviving family members include his wife, Cornelia Oddie, of Apopka. His children and their spouses are Sarah and Peter Coady of Daytona Beach, William Oddie, Martha Oddie both of South Daytona and James and Kelly Oddie of Wilbur-by-the-Sea, FL. He is also survived by four grandchildren Christopher, a U.S. Navy veteran, and Michael Coady, also, Spc. Kathryn and PV2 Aaron Oddie both of whom serve in the U.S. Army. His three great-grandchildren are Cameron and Teagan Coady and Lukas Dvorovy.
The family would like to acknowledge Hospice of Volusia-Flagler for their support. They are especially grateful to honorary family member, Robert Seny, who worked tirelessly to comfort and care for his friend, the Lieutenant Colonel.
