Winifred R. Goater, a homemaker, passed away peacefully at age 95 on October 21, 2018. Win was born in Niagara Falls, New York, and moved with her family to Ormond Beach in 1968. In 1989 she retired after 18 years at the Ormond Beach Osteopathic Hospital as Director of Personnel and Volunteer Coordinator. A longtime member of Ormond Beach Presbyterian Church, she enjoyed teaching Sunday School and Women’s Bible Studies and serving on the Fellowship Committee. In later years she devoted her time to caring for her ailing husband, Harry C. Goater, who passed away in 2015. They celebrated 65 years of marriage.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Richard Goater and JoAnn (Dan) Schafer; and grandchildren, Brian (Angela) Schafer and Jeffrey (Elizabeth) Schafer. Her grandsons provided her with many years of happiness and pleasure. She always said they were her most prized possessions and loved attending all their sports and music activities. She also enjoyed a close relationship with the family of her deceased sister, Roberta Stevenson, including her niece, Laurie Stevenson; great-nephew, Michael Moore; her late nephew, Jim (Lee Ann) Stevenson; great-nieces, Erin Stevenson, Kaitlin Stevenson, Robbie Stevenson, and Jamie Stevenson; and great-great nieces, Ava and Audrey .
Win’s life was full and happy, and she left this world in complete contentment with God and His plan for her life. The family expresses gratitude to Halifax Health Hospice for their care and support. A private family memorial service will be held at Volusia Memorial.
