Mrs. Ada Britton was a modest woman, quiet and observant in her ways. She was trustworthy and traditional in her approach to her life and in her relationships. She was tough-minded with the kind of “stick to it” attitude that earned the respect of all who knew her. She was also a meticulous woman, carefully disciplined, and orderly in virtually everything she undertook. Realistic about life, she was always at the ready, prepared to take on responsibility. Born in Leeds, England, she was the daughter of John and Celina Jackson. Ada and her siblings grew up in East York (Toronto), Ontario. Ada was raised with seven siblings. She had four older sisters, Edith, Bessie, Florence and Anne, and three younger brothers, John, Roland and Cyril. Ada was usually involved in all sorts of activities with her siblings. She and they experienced rivalries typical of a growing family, but they shared many life experiences over the years. Empathic and loyal, Ada was committed to making her new family happy. Ada worked hard to be a good mother to her children and she did her best in overcoming obstacles to fulfill their needs. Ada was blessed with seven children, three daughters, Pearl, Carol and Ruth, and four sons, Murray, Larry, Paul and Bradley. Another blessing for Ada was the gift of twenty-five grandchildren, Elaine, Steven, Heather, Terry, Andrea, Maria, Jeffrey, Carl, Raymond, David, Colleen, Robert, Michael (deceased), Tammy, Teddy, Dawna, Paul (and foster children Sherry and Harvey), Stewart, Christine, Michelle, Cory, Lee Ann , Billy, Daniel, and Gabriel (deceased). Ada enjoyed her leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. Her favourite pursuits were bingo and crossword puzzles. She was content to enjoy her favourite pastimes alone but was also willing to share her interests with others. Ada also found pleasure in sports. She was somewhat a sports fan and enjoyed following her favourite events whenever she had the chance to do so. Tops on her list were televised professional wrestling and Toronto Blue Jays baseball. Ada’s faith was very strong and important to her. She was a past member of Wanstead United Church, during which time she was a member of the choir. She loved to sing the old traditional hymns, and she also enjoyed listening to country and gospel music. Her favorite country song was by Ricky Van-Shelton titled "I'll Leave This World Loving You" Ada enjoyed traveling and occasional time away on vacations. It was a chance for her to rejuvenate and relax, to meet friends (old and new) at the trailer park, and to visit new places and experience new adventures. Favourite vacations included a memorable trip to Nova Scotia, and (let us not forget) her thorough enjoyment of camping in her trailer. Ada passed away on October 19, 2009 of natural causes, at Thorntonview Nursing Home in Oshawa,Ontario. She is survived by her seven children, her twenty three remaining grandchildren, her many great-grandchildren (numbering over 30), and eight great-great-grandchildren. Services were held at Oshawa Funeral Home. Ada was laid to rest with 'Dad' at Thornton Cemetery in Oshawa,Ontario. Simply stated, Ada was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by her family and friends as being a caring and giving person, a wonderful Mom, someone who was a vital part of all their lives. Ada leaves behind a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life she touched will always remember Mrs. Ada Britton. REST IN PEACE MOM
