I am so deeply saddened to hear of Adrian's passing.

I will always remember Adrian as both an inspiration and a mentor, in addition to someone so incredibly generous with his time and knowledge of percussion.

Uncle Adrian, you always threw some awrsome new year's parties! you were always able to make me laugh and you did nothing but have fun in your life. it may be tough to get through this, but I just keep telling myself that your not suffering anymore. that's what helps me and I think everybody is thankful that you are not suffering anymore. i'm sure you were very proud of what Aiden said at the funeral, you sure have been a great father to him and the twins, they will nevet forget you and neither will anyone you ever met. i love you, rest in peace<3

Sabrina and I will always remember Adrian's instant, huge and contagious smile, laugh, and big heart - his particular, and always natural, gusto for life. I have many fond memories from Adrian's earlier days to more recent times, and cherish them all. All our thoughts are with you, Fred and Margaret, Isolde, Mark, Hazel, Aidan, Leah, Skye, and all your families and friends. We will always have Adrian in our hearts, we are so thankful and lucky to have known him, and to have been his friends. He was one of the finest and kindest people we will ever know.

At a time like this - it is so very difficult to find the right words.  You know how saddened we are at your loss, and can only hope and pray that God guides you and looks down upon you all - and is able to help you deal with your sorrow.

I didn't know Adrian as a "grown-up" - but knew him as a teen - and always remember that lovely smiling face.....he was just adorable.  As years went by - I heard about Adrian's accomplishments and what a mentor he was to many.  The last time I saw him - (just over a year ago)- we met at Winchester Public School at a Christmas Pageant and he hugged me and said "Hey!  Mrs. D!!!!"  I looked up at him and said "Hmmmmm....Do I know you???"  He then said "It's Adrian!"  I said "Boy!  Did you ever clean up nice!!!!...Look at you!!!"  We had a short conversation after that and I still fondly remember him turning around and waving Goodbye to me at the front of the School.  Never in a moment did I ever think that would be the last time I would see Adrian.  

I cannot even imagine what you are all going through - but in your hearts Adrian will always be.  Margaret & Fred - I have only met you once - but bless you for raising such a wonderful and much loved Son.  You can be very proud of him and how he touched everyone he knew.  Joan - you have had a wild ride in the last year - along with Hazel and the Children.  Hopefully - life will now settle down somewhat and the grief will ease and "time" will help heal the dull ache in all of your hearts.

For years, his mother-in-law told me wonderful tales (she and I were co-workers).  I loved to hear of Hazel and Adrian adventures. Oh boy!  It seemed to me 'these two could really party!'
I know a part of me was jealous of all their fun! :-) As young adults, they embraced their Scottish heritage and lived life to the very fullest!! I've followed along through Joan's updates since the 90's. What a joy those three children bring!!  I did not know Adrian personally, and I cannot begin to know how his passing is hurting you all.  I want to think Adrian no longer suffers, has a pint and a kilt and be doin' a wee dance of relief now....  RIP Laddie. May your loved ones be comforted.

I was deeply saddened to learn about Adrian's passing.  

I worked with Adrian at AXA for a number of years, but never really got to know him well until about 7 years ago when my mom was in a very serious car accident which put her in the ICU.  I went to Adrian for advice about what my mom could expect from her insurance company regarding  the claims process. He sat down with me and took a great deal of time over the following weeks helping me understand the process and the questions we needed to ask to get the best after care possible for my mom. You could tell it was never an imposition for him --he was just happy to help a fellow co-worker in whatever way he could.  In the weeks, months and years that followed, whenever Adrian and I would run into each other at work, he always took the time to stop and talk to me, and always without fail he would ask about my mom.  He never forgot about her...even years later.  I think that says a lot about the kindhearted, warm & caring person he was.  

I will always remember Adrian for the support he gave me during what was a scary time for my family.   

My heartfelt condolences to you Hazel, your children, and the rest of the Pleasants family...Adrian will never be forgotten.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.  I have so many found memories of  Adrian and the Ajax High School Band. My  favourite  and the one that brings smiles to many  former members faces is of Adrian leading the "Spadina bus" song on our England road trip.  I know he will  continue to sing and play his drums  in heaven and  that he is now finally  at peace.

There's a photograph of Adrian at my 6th birthday party when I lived just around the corner on Lambard Crescent.  I remember visiting the Pleasants' house around that age and playing a game of crokinole.  Adrian only vaguely remembered it, but it's a unique memory for me as I've not had occasion to play the game since.

I moved shortly thereafter and our friendship paused at that young age, until we we became  reacquainted in high school through common friends and of course Fred's music program.  We may have suffered the "band geek" label at the time, but I know we've all grown to recognize the high school bands as fundamental to the adults and friends that we've become.   The bands, the performances and the tours were fertile ground for our growth and they allowed us to share that magic that musicians get to share: the high frequency trade of listening and contribution.

I will never forget Adrian's performances of "Serenade On A Picket Fence", a xylophone duet with   Julie Lawson and, in her absence, with Fred.  Also indelible is an outdoor performance of "Birdland" in Knaresborough, where the cold weather weakened Ade's drumsticks so that they repeatedly shattered into splinters that showered the horn section.  

During high school, Adrian managed to balance having his father as our teacher.  While Fred needed to spend exasperating amounts of energy keeping me in line in the classroom, it must have been hard for Adrian to say over the dinner table, "that class clown is my friend".  I don't know how Fred and Adrian negotiated the father/son teacher/student duality behind the scenes, but from my point of view it was seamless, consistent and extraordinary. 

Being asked by Adrian and the guys to have a go at singing for the band that would become Matrix was a privileged opportunity, especially given the spectral extremes of Adrian's drumming ability and my singing ability.  Adrian and the guys were patient with me, but perhaps no one was more patient than Fred, who generously opened up the music room to us for our unguided noise making.  Those Friday night practice sessions in the music room were what we eagerly looked forward to all week and they have become for me what some people would call their "happy place".  

After we all scattered to various universities, we reconvened at a new happy place for what came to be known as "Adefest": Adrian's 21st birthday at the cottage in Magnettawan.  This became an annual gathering that has now spanned half of our lives, growing as our wee tribe did.   My fondest memories have been formed there, as have comforting rituals: shared meals, fireside acoustic music, sundrenched amplified music with Adrian on the drums, reminiscent retelling of our shared history, and marking the passing of another year with all of its heights, depths and learnings.  I regularly describe this annual gathering to people as "the laughingest weekend of the year" and of course Adrian's laugh and playful humour are at the heart of it all.   Our bellies have ached from the laughter - a welcome pain of the finest kind.

Amongst all the revelry at the cottage, Adrian always thoughtfully made a moment to make a toast to each of the absent friends that we've lost along the way.

Every year that I've returned from overseas purposefully for Adefest, the feeling of kinship with Adrian has only grown.  An easy fraternity has shown itself not only in the abundant laughter and gentle jibes, but over the din of his drum kit and in the comfortably silent shared bonfire stare.  I've loved him like a brother, and he made me feel like one.  

May we all somehow find the lighter side that Adrian always could.

February 9, 2012 Tuktoyaktuk North West Territories.
 I was priviledged to have had a brief acquaintance with Adrian through the great friendship Adrian's wife Hazel shares with my very dear sister Julie Blamires of Auckland New Zealand. My prayers are with you Hazel, your children and the family Adrian has on both sides of the marriage tree.  I remember during the wedding ceremony which I was  blessed to have been invited to attend for Adrian and Hazel, one very wonderful moment.  About the time of the vow exchanges as Adrian and Hazel were kneeling with the minister in the front of the church, I became among many there aware that Adrian's body was moving in what might have easily been construed as a laughter kind of motion...gently heaving yet maintaining his composure,  As we all listened carefully, the only sounds were the voices of Hazel and Adrian faced away from us speaking their private vows infront of the church and minister.  What quickly became apparent to us was that Adrian was crying.  Adrian was crying with joy.  It was a lovely and precious moment which male gendered creatures don't often allow themselves to express...tears of happiness...such was the dimension of Adrian's joy at committing his life to Hazel.

It was for me a highlight of this loving wedding.

Hazel, I am so unbelievably sorry for your loss. As you know,  I have known Adrian for many years. I still can't quite believe that this has happened. He was a friend and a colleague. I have many great memories of him both in and outside of work. He was a wonderful, positive person, amazing to be around, and always able to see the good in things. He will be missed by everyone who knew him. My thoughts are with you.

I miss posing for countless band pictures, with his arm around my shoulders.  I miss his eyebrow being raised in mock disbelief.  I miss his incredible laugh (with the little pause before, and the head thrown back).  I will miss him all the days of my life, as I know countless others will.  We should all be so loved.  I pray for strength for Hazel, the children, Fred and Margaret, all the family.

I miss your jolly good-morning when you come into the office, I miss you everytime I walk by your desk but, most of all I miss hearing the pride in your voice and seeing that sparkle in your eye when you spoke about your three beautiful children.  I miss hearing about your vacations at the "cabin", a place you clearly held dear in your heart.  Adrian you will live on in all of us as long as we have your memories and especially the memories that you have left in the minds and hearts of your wife, children, parents and siblings.

My deepest sympathies go to the Pleasants family at this very difficult time. I knew Adrian throughout elementary school and high school, the latter mostly for his music. A few years ago I bought my son a drum set, thinking at the time that I hoped he'd grow to play like Adrian- already a legend. He will live forever through his music and his family. I am so sorry for this tragic loss.

I remember Adrian for his awesome talents as a percussionist in the Ajax High School bands and many band concerts and journeys.  I feel saddened by the news of his passing.  My thoughts are with Adrian's family and friends.

To Hazel, Margaret and Fred and the rest of the family.  We are so sad that we aren't there in person, to show our respects to one of the finest young men we know.  We first saw Adrian when he was playing Charlie Brown in a school production in Grade 6, and watched him grow into a wonderful loving and giving man - a great father to his kids, and a very good friend to our son Glenn.  So many of our memories of Glenn's childhood and highschool years are tied to Adrian and the band and for me, especially, the band trip to England.  Adrian is at peace now and we will always keep him fondly in our hearts.

It's a long time since the Matrix and senior stage band days but even before I got to AHS, attending the concerts my older brothers played in, Adrian's drumming was always the highlight. As I sit reading the messages from Adrian's many friends it became abundantly clear that Adrian made a powerful impression on all who knew him. It is said that the true wealth that we have in life is not measured in things but by the number of friends that we make and keep. If this is so then Adrian was a very blessed man .
I had the pleasure of watching Adrian perform in the Ajax High School Band. I was proud to be part of the music program and to help Adrian's loving father take the Band on many musical journeys.
Adrian's musical talent was an important part of who he was but he was so much more. His love for his family and his genuine warmth made everyone around him feel important. His smile and laughter filled a room.
Adrian,you were loved and you will live forever in our hearts. Your smile will never fade from our memory.

My deepest sympathy to you and the kids. Adrian was a great guy who truly lived up to his surname "Pleasant". Adrian was a great co-worker and a lovable person. I enjoyed working with him at AXA. May God please you all.

I was so sorry to hear about Adrian's passing.  He will be dearly missed by all of his friends at AXA.  I don't think I ever saw him without a wonderful smile on his face.  My deepest condolences to Hazel and your beautiful family.  Sarah

Hazel, Mr. & Mrs. Pleasants and Family,

I can only imagine how acutely you will feel the loss of such a wonderful man.  His laughter and good humour made everyone around him smile just hearing it.  There are so many memories –the Ajax High School Senior Band and Stage Band with my brother Glenn as well as Adrian, our trips to England, Boston, the fundraising, the parties the guys would have – too many memories to list all at once.  His smiling face and warm personality will always be remembered by those he met whether he knew them for a minute or for half their lives.  

He will be missed.

His laughter, his smile, his love for life and his musicical talents.  Just a few things that I will always remember about Adrian. Adefest, Band trip to England in high school - both things that I was never apart of but his energy was always apparent in the stories and photos told by so many of his friends. His personality was magnetic and he made you feel welcome.  To Hazel - heartfelt condolences to you and your family.  You will always see him in you children eyes. Cherish the memories and look at photos often.  This is such a difficult thing to bear, I wish you strength and my prayers are with you.  He was a genuinely good man that touched so many people. Hazel my friend and all of your loving family- know that you are not alone. While I only met Adrian a few times, I heard and saw many a tale through your stories, Hazel. Adrian, I will always remember your smile and how you could always make me laugh.  You were such a good friend to me and Cory and brought many joyful moments to our lives, from our times at the cabin, our trip to Great Wolf Lodge, camping, and the many New Years spent together.  I will cherish the memories.  Alyssa and Reanna will miss their Uncle Adrian.  Thinking of Hazel, Aidan, Skye and Leah, Mr and Mrs. Pleasants and all the rest of his cherished family.  All my love goes out to all of you at this very difficult time.

Adrian was a kind and lovely soul, and one of the first friends I met at high school. More than once he saved my musically inept self by playing his drums just that little bit louder, much to a raised and amused eyebrow from his (much loved by all of us) father. He shall always be fondly thought of, and my deepest sympathy to Hazel and all the family. I wish I could be there to say so personally.

Adrian touched so many lives with his warmth and laughter. Deepest condolences to you and your family for your loss. He will be missed by his Axa family.
