Dear John & the Smyth family,

I have the fondest memories being at the Smyth house as a youngster. John, you and your family opened up your home often, for basement parties, water fights in the yard and countless snacks and chatter sitting around your dining room table. I am sad to learn of the passing of your dad, John. I will keep your family in my thoughts.

My sincerest condolences to you all.

After reading all the testimonials that have been put forward, I felt compelled to add a bit from many years ago, Dave Smyth & I grew up together and chummed together till we were in our teens. We lost track of each other & went our separate ways in life, but I never forgot those young years. They were precious to me and he was a part of those memories. From what I have read, he made a great impression in many lives & that is a testament to the individual that he was. I know I will never forget him & I think he will be a memory in many others lives. That in itself is a testament to the individual that he was. God bless, Dave. Rest in peace -- Pat McGillen

I was sorry to hear about the passing of Mr. Smyth. Mr. and Mrs Smyth have been neighbours of my family for many years. Always opening their home to the many wedding and baby showers there have been. While going through pictures today I came across a picture from our wedding May 2001. A great shot of all the neighbours. I thought you’d enjoy the memory.

When I look back on my childhood I feel like the Smyth's home was a second home to me. I always remember your dad being there for all of our shenanigans. Always with a smile and a Hi Shelley. (I can still hear his voice) Maybe not always a smile sometimes he would be telling us off. Lol. We were up to no good sometimes. Now that I am a parent I know that it just meant he cared. So sorry for your loss. He was an amazing husband and father. Love you all! XO

Dear Karen and Smyth family,

Your dad was an amazing man. I spent most of my teenage years hanging out in your basement and even spending holidays (Christmas) with your family. Your dad always welcomed everyone in with open arms. My best teenage memories are with you and your family.

There are no words right now to describe what you are going through. I know this pain too well my dear friend. I do know that strength, prayer, your amazing circle of support, Dan, your children, friends will help guide you, your mom and your family through this incredibly difficult time. Your dad was a part of so many lives and the fact that he had the patience to put up with a basement full of 16 year old's crashing there almost every weekend...an angel. He will always be a part of you. He will always be with you. He will live in your heart forever. Sending my deepest condolences and you and your family.

In my thoughts and prayers, Linda

I’m so sorry to hear about Mr.Smyth’s passing. I have many memories in the Smyth’s basement hangout where we were always welcomed and the many sleepovers with Karen. I was even a honorary Smyth for a period of time when we traveled down south on a work convention . I remember him being a kind, gentle and soft spoken father who adored his family. Because of him I know every word to every 50’s song written. Karen and Mrs.Smyth, hold on tight to your memories , turn to God for strength and know that you and your family are loved and adored across the miles. Sending prayers, love and hugs to you all ❤️❤️❤️

I will always remember Dave as Mr Smyth. I could never call him anything but. The door was always open to a loving, caring family. Through the years you not only raised your own family but we’re a big part of all of ours. How many kids grow up with that?! And as well, our parents got to know you all and formed a great relationship . Love to all. Thanks for help raising a great group of kids/friends and families. The Callery’s.
