Debra Andrea Evelyn

January 19, 1954January 29, 2018

EVELYN, Debra Andrea Debra Andrea Evelyn, age 64, has graduated and returned to the stars for her next adventure. Daughter of Johnny and Kitty Evelyn, Debra was born on January 19th, 1954, younger sister to Sydney, Joan Ann, Bernadette and Leo; older sister to Victor and Dwayne. Debra followed in her parents footsteps in regards to her passion for Barbados, it was in pursuit of this passion where she met her loving husband, Laurence Bell, at a sailing class. They soon discovered they both worked in business for General Motors where they continued long and successful careers. Following their retirement they spent many years sailing the sea and visiting family in Barbados prior to her diagnosis. Debra underwent a double lung transplant in 2012, she continued to live life to the fullest every second thereafter, travelling and spending time with family. She passed peacefully on January 29th, 2018 at 1:17pm surrounded by her husband and other family members under the compassionate care and guidance of the Toronto General Transplant Critical Care team. Her family will always be grateful to this team for their support during Debra’s battle, despite her strength her lungs were no longer strong enough. She has now passed over to a new way of life; out of her body that was no longer capable of supporting such a beautiful soul. Debra’s family will miss the light she brought to everyone’s life however the memories of her adventures will never be forgotten, she will remain a role model to us all. Those whose lives were touched by Debra are invited to a Celebration of Life being held at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West, Oshawa (905-721-1234) on Saturday, February 10th, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service, followed by a reception for family and friends to celebrate as Debra would have wanted. Debra always chose to focus on the joy in life, we look forward to doing the same in her memory. Online condolences may be made at

We were very fortunate to meet Deb and Laurence at the marina in Titusville, FL. It didn't take long for us to appreciate these two genuine and caring people.
Back in Ontario we kept in touch and enjoyed many visits and adventures.
It was always easy to share deep conversations with Deb and we value the wisdom about life that she shared with us. She touched us with her ready chuckle, her determination and her keen insights. Thank you, Deb, for the love you gave us. Lois & Harry Vogelzang.

Dear Laurence,
We will always remember Debra with love and happiness. Some of our happiest Barbados memories are floating in the ocean with her. She always had a big grin on her face and you could tell that she was in her favourite place.
Love to you from Petra, Stephen and Justin

Dear Laurence, I am so sorry to hear of Deb's passing. I always remember you talking to me at the Zone about your love of sailing and the Barbadoes. I remember when you and Deb got married and the Zone presented you and Deb with a nautical theme basket. I am so happy you both found each other and were able to share the same passion. You are in my thoughts and prayers my friend at this most difficult time.
