Don Grant: one of a kind.
News sense, common sense, a kind heart and a good soul: Don had them all.
We learned from him, and alongside him, and a generation of reporters was all the better for it.
To Don's family: he was so proud of you all.

Don was a good buddy for years at The Globe, from the days when we used to sit listening to the police squawk box until he was directing the city reporting team.  Don never claimed to be a great writer, but he was a master at getting people to tell him their stories and he urged along a lot of young reporters who went on to success at The Globe and other papers.  He knew everyone who counted at the cop shop, and the yarns he could spin from his days on the police beat . . .


Don, it was a treat to have worked with you at The Globe and Mail. You were a very good colleague and a nice guy even under the pressure of deadlines. My condolences to your family and friends.

R.I.P Gramps, I couldn't have asked for a better Grandpa! I'm sorry I can't make it to the funeral from BC. But know that I loved you very much, and can't wait to see you on the other side!

Don you will be truly missed. Thank you for welcoming me into your family with open arms. It was my pleasure to have known you and been able to be apart of your life. I will always remember your sense of humor and I will be sure to keep your spirit ALIVE. I love you now and always. Rest in Peace Big Guy! ????

Don taught many of us young journalists the ropes at the Globe and Mail. I especially remember learning from him when he was weekend editor. My condolences to Don's friends and family.

My sincerest condolences to the Grant family. I worked with Don for years at The Globe and Mail and have many wonderful memories of him. He was generous with his vast knowledge of newspaper work and I enjoyed talking with him while we worked together when he was the weekend editor and mentored so many young journalists. 
Don was the first reporter to get angry with me over some editing changes I had made to one of his stories. But later in the evening he called me to apologize and tell me that the changes had made his story better. It shows how much he cared about what he wrote, but also how much he cared about the people he worked with. He often appeared gruff, but he was a softie inside. I will remember him with fondness.

Kerry I have never been good at writing in a obituary, but I don't want that to keep me from letting you know the deep sympathy Wendy and I feel for you at this time.
Kerry I want you to know friends who love you surround you.

We will miss Don greatly!  He was an "Uncle" to all of our family. We will remember all the wonderful times we had together!  May he rest in peace with his Saviour in Heaven.
