Dr. M. K. Hampole

Dr. Mahadevappa Hampole passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Friday, June 7th, 2019, in his 83rd year. Beloved husband of Jayashree of 48 years. Loving father of Ravi (Kristi) and Anil. Cherished grandfather, “Ajja”, of Tudor and Kirin. A Celebration of Life will be held in August at the Oshawa Golf and Curling Club, at a date and time yet to be determined. Madhu immigrated from India to Canada in 1963. He completed medical school at the University of Toronto, and trained in Reconstructive Surgery in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and London, Ontario. He opened his practice in 1971 in Oshawa and married his wife Jayashree that same year. He served the Durham Region as a Physician for 47 years. He was an authentic and honest caregiver, looking after every patient with interest and integrity. He was a committed family man, and a loyal friend. He always spoke with purpose and clarity. He was a captivating story teller, with an infectious laugh and an incredible sense of humour. He was a real character. Madhu was an avid golfer, having been a member of the Oshawa Golf and Curling Club, his second home, since 1974. Madhu was also an avid reader, with a particular interest in historical biographies, poetry and philosophy. There was nothing he liked better than to engage in an interesting conversation with anyone and at any time. And he always made time for those he cared about. Anyone who met Madhu appreciated his sharp wit, candour and joyful spirit. He was a kind soul and a true gentleman. He was an inspiration to us all and he will not be forgotten. I was sad to hear of Dr. Hampole's passing. I have fond memories of him. He did plastic surgery on me when I was a child, removing a facial mole. He was a friend of the family who would take time to speak to a child, then a teen, then a young woman, showing true interest and offering affirmation. What a sweet person.

Sending love to his family who I haven't seen in so many years. May you all be well in your time of grief.

A dear friend to all of my family. We golfed and laughed. We shared philosophy, we were willing to help each other or any of our family at any time. Madhu made me think, he was so insightful and so special. We will all miss him dearly and were thankful that he shared part of his life with us. All of our love to Jay and the family. Dan, Deana, Johnathan and Cathryn.

I knew Madhu as both a surgeon (he removed a cyst from my armpit) and a golfer (we played many times over the past 10 years). He was a true gentleman, charming and funny. He took his golf seriously but never complained about a bad bounce. I was fortunate to be part of his foursome at a medical fund-raiser tournament a few years ago, and was impressed by the obvious respect in which he was held by his colleagues. I will miss his diminutive suspendered figure at the Oshawa Golf club.

Sharon and I have known Madhu ever since he first arrived in Oshawa in 1971. He was always a delightful friendly person, a great professional opinion, a caring physician,. He was deeply and energetically involved in many fund raising efforts for worthy causes. He was always very persistent and would call again until we had contributed.
He was always a great pleasure to deal with. We will both miss him greatly. Our sincere condolences go to his wife and family at this sad time.

So sad to hear of Madhu’s passing he was such a sweet person. I always remember after playing golf we would all have drinks on the patio but he would always have Tea in a China cup. He was such a pleasure to play golf with, he never got upset about his golf game he would just carry on. He always loved a good joke and had such a great sense of humour. One of the things I missed most after leaving Oshawa Golf Club was Madhu.
Sleep well my friend!
I miss you!

We will miss seeing Madhu when we go to the Oshawa Golf Club. He always made time to speak with our mother and late father when we would go to the Golf Club.
Our condolences to the family. We hope that the memories you have help you to get over this difficult time.

Madhu and my husband David were very close friends.
They spent many hours together at O.G.C as well as being surgeons at the Oshawa hospital now known as Lakeridge.
Our boys grew up together with a love of golf thanks to their dads.
Madhu was an amazing surgeon and a wonderful friend.
We are thankful that the city of Oshawa had this most talented surgeon.
My sincerest thoughts are with the family.
I loved Dr Madhu.
