It is with incredible sadness but also with great hope that we share the news that Edward George James Homes (84 years old) has gone to his heavenly home. The angels came and took my sweet Husband, our beloved Dad, Papa and Great Papa to be with Jesus on Wednesday, September 4th, 2019, peacefully with his family by his side. He was the most amazing and wonderful Husband of Nettie (Wasiluke) for 62 years (September 7th, 1957). Edward was predeceased by our precious angel, Susan Elizabeth. The dearest Dad of David (Marlene), Scotty & Carolyn, his princess Wendy & Scott Couper, Kathy & Glen Taylor. He was the most cherished Papa in the world to Kayley & Caleb Dunn, Shelby, Alexandria & Jacob Dunn, Olivia (Tyson), Cody (Natalie), Rachel and Justin Edward. He was the sweetest Great Papa to his “Wee Princess” Noelyn Grace and his two precious great grandbaby boy twins, Miles and Fletcher; he lived for them, each one of his family. He was an amazing brother-in-law to our sweet sister, our angel Mary, Olga (Nick), his late sister-in-law Shirley (Stan), and Alex (Bubs). He was the dear son of the late George & Bessie Homes, brother to Josie (Neil) and his late sisters; Jessie (Elwood), Marg (Denny) & Bid (Norm). He was the son-in-law of the late Alexander & Tillie Wasiluke, who adored their “Eddie”. He was loved by his many nieces and nephews, cousins, his dearest friends; Sibby, Peter & Evelyn, his church family and his work buddies. Our love, our faith in God and our deep love for each other is what kept us going through his long and difficult journey with prostate cancer. But through it all, Ed never lost his joy. We want to thank the wonderful cancer team, Dr. A. Lee, Nurse Paulette, Dr. Greg Lo, Dr. McAllister, Dr. Chang, our family doctor, Dr. M. Ali, and our home Nurse Joan, who brought so much fun and compassion into our home. Our paramed and palliative care workers were always so kind and giving, they treated us just like family with so much love. There will never be a more caring, compassionate and fun-loving team than the nurses and staff on the 4F Cancer support floor. They loved Ed and I, and we loved them. Thank you from the bottom our hearts, we will never forget you! I have lost the most kind and loving Husband, he truly was the wind beneath my wings and the song in my heart. We were inseparable, we were still so madly in love and because of that, my life will never be the same again. One day we will walk the Streets of Gold together, hand in hand. I love you Honey, forever and ever. Visitation will be held at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234) on Sunday, September 8th from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the chapel on Monday, September 9th at 1:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Lakeridge Health Foundation.

Anyone who spent any time with Ed Homes would realize that they were in the company of a very special human being--- a man who cared deeply for the welfare of everyone he met. His sole purpose in life seemed to be to brighten the days of others, a task he accomplished with remarkable success. It was a privilege for me to know Ed during our years at General Motors.

My memory of Ed Homes is one of kindness and compassion. He showed great respect to my family on the passing of my father many years ago. I also had a brief working experience with him at General Motors finding him to be very intelligent and a conscientious worker. I wish to express my deepest sympathy and condolences to the family. The world became a better place having you pass through. Hopefully there will be room on your cloud when my time comes.
sincerely, Eugene Grabowski

First, my condolences to Nettie and the Homes Family.

Ed and I worked together in Central Plant Engineering (Facilities) at GM for many years. Ed was my shining light during a dark period in my life. He was my best friend, like an angel sent to be there for me.

Ed showed me how to drive a car very fast around the Autoplex and how to help anyone who asked.

I remember when the Wendy and Scott were planning their wedding, Ed asked me to type up the wedding list and prepare the labels for the envelopes. I was so honoured to be able to return something back to him for all he did for me.

What a wonderful gentleman with an amazing smile, laugh and love for life and family.

Thank you for teaching me so much and sharing these amazing skills with me.

Your Friend, Leslie

The silver fox with the amazing smile and glint in his eye. The tribute movie (what a glorious tribute), explains it all. He has an amazing and loving family and Eddie touched and blessed all the lives that were in his life or just passed by in his life.

I enjoyed all our interactions at GM South Plant for many years. If Eddie could not help you, he would tell you who could help. He came to work everyday with a smile and a bigger smile at end of day.

My condolences to the Homes family.

So sorry for your family's loss. Mr. Homes was a wonderful man who brought many a smile to our faces Sunday morning at church. Lots of great memories of your parents from my teenage years at Trinity Pentecostal Church in Oshawa. Looking forward to that time of reunion and rejoicing one day very soon!!!❤🙏
