George Henry Brandreth

BRANDRETH, George Henry At the Hillsdale Nursing Home in Oshawa on Thursday, January 4th, 2018 in his 99th year, George Henry Brandreth, beloved son of the late Dorothy and Edwin, beloved brother of the late Edwin, beloved husband of 74 years to Vera Dore, and ever remembered by children Linda (William) Stuart, Carol (Raymond) Tanti, Dorothy (Michael) Perrotto, Kenneth (Grant) Brandreth, Eleanor (Doug) Nicholson. Loving grandfather of Doug, Allen, Cheryl, Denise, Melissa, Michelle, Christina, Jennifer, David, Kyle and Danielle. Also loved by his great grandchildren and his great great grandchildren. Also remembered by his many nieces and nephews.

George was a kind and loving man. The love he had for his wife Vera and children was like no other. He had many stories and experiences to share throughout his life but was always very humble. He overcame a lot of obstacles and accomplished a lot in his life. His appreciation for life was something to admire. George saw the beauty in the small things in life. He loved to laugh, he loved to sing, he loved yoga, he loved the sun, he loved woodcarving and he loved his garden.

George was someone who would light up a room and always had a story to tell. Although he was a humble man, he loved being the center of attention. Whether it was telling a joke or striking up a conversation, he never liked the room to be too serious. He was the type of man that would make you feel comfortable in any situation and have everyone smiling in the room. He lived a life full of pride, joy and happiness. George was a WWII Veteran who was a hardworking and disciplined man. He dedicated his life to his family. He was a long-time employee of Colgate Palmolive, from which he happily retired.

You will always be missed. There are so many wonderful memories that you have left behind. When the sun is shining we will know it is your spirit shining down on us. Let us celebrate your life and continue your legacy. You are our sunshine.

It is hard to say good bye to such a great man and father.
Growing up as a child I always felt safe and loved. I knew I could count on him to be there always. There was a sense of security. He was reliable, always home, always hard working, always there for his family.
He took us many places, camping, fishing, canoeing, swimming, hiking. I never felt that he did not want to spend time with me.
I had no worries in the world.

He was a quiet man, but when you could get him to tell his stories about all he had seen in his 99 years it was pretty amazing to listen to him.

Dad had been through so much in his life that as an adult, he always had such good advice when I went to him for it. He was a very strong man with a very kind sensible outlook on life.

I will miss you so much.
