Gord was a great coach and mentor.  I often feared his workouts!  He was always there for advice when I needed it.  I won many races throughout my high school racing days, which I always credited to him for his tough workouts and passion for the sport.  I just cant believe how I randomly came across this news. But it is bringing back memories of my most treasured days from when I was a member of Oshawa Legion.  Ironically, I am starting as an assistant track coach in Cobourg this Saturday (which is why I came to this site), and your coaching techniques are the same ones that I will be implementing in my own coaching.  I just wish I came across this a week sooner so that I could have attended your wake. Kevin, I was so sorry to hear about your Dad's passing.  I have great memories of him at O'Neill, especially while I was working on my final computer project in grade thirteen --  what a sense of humour!  I'm thinking about you, Kim, Steven and your Mom at this time.  Wish I could give you a big hug.  My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Dear Mrs. Banks and family,
Mr. Banks was my Math teacher at O'Neill in the early/mid 70's. I looked forward to his classes because he showed such enthusiasm for his subject and cared so much about his students. I remember his integrity, dedication and sense of humour.

This is very sad news to receive. I know Gord's role in your lives cannot be replaced. The wider community has lost his calm and wise contribution to excellence. One pauses when one realizes just how much he has contributed to so many.

He would always lead our runs and always had helpful and kind words for us, staying calm even though I am sure coaching us was like hearding cats! Lorraine so sorry to hear about Gord. I am so happy that I ran into the two of you in Newcastle.  Gord is one of the reasons I still have such a passion for running to this day.  My thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.

Lorraine and family. It was so sad to read about Gordon's passing.The entire Dyment family are thinking of you. Gordon made such a huge contribution to track and field and cross country. D.E.A.A.cross country was so much better when Gord helped consolidate the L.O.S.S.A.resources with the elementary schools. Your family was instrumental in moving us forward with computer scoring for X-C. What a great privilege it was to have worked so many years with Gord.He was a tireless worker.

My condolences to your family on the passing of your husband and father.  I shall always remember Gord as a great mathematics teacher in not only Durham, but all of Ontario.  He was someone who was admired and looked up to by all mathematics teachers in Durham. Mr. Banks was a wonderful cross country coach. He was my coach after he had retired and was such a dedicated man to the sport and team. I was always amazed at how fast he could calculate if I wasn't running fast enough...and praised us when we were doing just fine.

My sincere condolences. Mr. Banks was a great mentor at O'Neill when I attended in the late 80s. He ran many of the math competitions that I participated in and taught some of my math and CS classes. These were all vital preparation for my university studies and subsequent career. I recall some cross country training runs with Mr. Banks as well. I will always be grateful for his help. Fondly remembered.

We in the Minor Hockey Community will remember Gord as a very genial and reasonable man to deal with. He always sought solutions where others might have sought confrontation. He made a difference in everything he was involved in. We will continue to miss him. My sincere condolences to his family.

Mrs Banks, Kevin & Kim and Steven, my condolences. A flood of great memories are coming back. Mr Banks has been popping in my head over the last couple months every time Party Rock Anthem comes on the radio. When I hear "Every day I'm shuffling", I see Gordie in the yellow track suit shuffling along.

Mr. Banks was my math teacher in Grade 9 in the early 80's.  He'd pass you in the and say hi or good morning.  Always the professional.  To Mrs. Banks and his family, from my family to yours, our sincere condolences.

Gord was always there when it came to high school track and field, whether at the local level or at OFSAA (All Ontario High School Championships). His contributions were amazing.

Dear Lorraine, Kevin and Steven,
So many memories of a great husband, dad, and friend!  So many good times we shared - - visiting back and forth ever month for years from before babies until the nest was empty and then the grandkids came, taking trips to Florida together, skiing often in the east and the west, spending time at Stoney Lake for so many summers, making gingerbread houses at Grey Cup parties every Nov. , living together for lots of summers with Gord biking to Waterloo and then going to Miske kid baseball and soccer games in the evening, doing different house projects in Oshawa and Cambridge together.  The loss of our good friend is huge but what we all had is also huge.  We loved him. The Miske family is very sad but also grateful for all the wonderful times we shared over so many years.
