January 26th 1933 – April 27th 2017
After courageously battling the many health challenges life presented to her, Joan passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 27th 2017 at the age of 84. It was with love, dignity and faith that she left us to be reunited with cherished family and friends who went before her.
Joan was predeceased by her parents Jack and Ethel Dingwall and her brother Bob and sister in law Lorraine. She is survived and will be sorely missed by her husband Joe Wright, and by her six (Bacon) children Patricia (Phil), Andrew (Monica), Peter, Paul , Michael (Chris) and Stephen, and her 7 grandchildren Carly, Blair, Laura, Allie, Sophia, Kai and Lily, and her 3 great grandchildren, Tyler, Mason, and Riley. Also, her five (Wright) stepchildren Suzanne, Matthew, Michael, Anthony, Mark, and their children. She will also be missed by her brother Bill and sister in law Kathy, and her sister Kathy along with a large extended family of cousins nieces and nephews.
Joan was a very special and unforgettable character who lived life to the fullest. She loved a good party! She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh. Joan enjoyed knitting, old movies, and especially loved summer days and gardening on her deck. She faithfully rooted for the Blue Jays, and always enjoyed a tall glass of wine (or 2) . Joan was an avid music lover. She loved Frank Sinatra and also Johnny Mathis who she was thrilled to meet in person. She loved to sing “My Way” and did so right to the very end. (She also did a stellar rendition of “The Eggplant That Ate Chicago!”)
Nothing was more important to Joan than family. In her later years she happily assumed the role of family matriarch and was affectionately referred to as Gramma B.
Joan and her family are thankful for the care and support she received through the years from the Oshawa medical community. They are especially grateful for the excellent home care provided by the kind staff of St. Elizabeth and the compassionate team at Fairview Lodge who cared for her in her final days.
It was Joan’s wish that there be no funeral or memorial service after her cremation. There will be a gathering of friends and family and a celebration of her life in the near future.
As the song goes, she did it her way!
Condolences can be expressed by making a donation to Joan’s favorite charity World Vision Canada or, to a charity of your choice.
