R.N. (TGH School of Nursing ’54), B.A. Fine Arts & History (U. of T. ‘85)
November 19, 1933 – March 24, 2025
After a full life primarily enjoyed in her birth city of Oshawa, Marg died at home in her 92nd year.
Proud and loving mother of Susan (Mark), Ginny (Bob), Laurie (Mark) and Nancy. She was also a special Grandma to 11 grandchildren (Jamie, Meagan, Erin, Emily, Katie, Abby, Matthew, John, Patrick, Cailyn and Liam) and 2 great-grandchildren (Eva and Nolan). Pre-deceased by her husband, William (2008), her parents Reta and Robert Brown (Jean). Survived by one sister, Jean (Alston), one sister-in-law, Donna, one brother-in-law, Robert (Diane), and 9 nieces and nephews.
Mom enjoyed work as a registered nurse in Oshawa, North Bay and Hamilton before she became a full-time mother of 4. When her last child was in school, she volunteered as a docent at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery in Oshawa, then became employed fulltime as an Education & Public Relations Officer. She particularly enjoyed working with several artists and their archival works. Following this, Mom engaged in municipal and provincial work as a member of Heritage Oshawa and as an elected school board trustee.
Mom continued to challenge her mind and gain knowledge after retirement through her voracious reading habit. Animals were also a big part of her life, especially dogs, from small to large. They were great companions for her when kids left the house, and daily dog walks reacquainted her with neighbours after Dad passed away. Mom loved everything about quilting, from choosing the pattern, fabric, stitching and taking specialty courses. She also loved the peace found at the family cottage and spent many summers there from a young age.
The family would like to thank Mom’s neighbours who looked out for her and helped her when we were not available.
Donations can be made in Marg’s memory to Humane Society of Durham Region or a charity of your choice.
