Introduction
Welcome and thank you for attending today. Your kind words and support over these last weeks are very much appreciated by not only myself but the entire Elston family. I am Mark, 1st son born to Mom and Dad in 1956. I’d like to share with you a bit of my mother’s history and a few of my fondest memories of Mum.
History
1934 Born to Greta and Frank Burrows, had a younger brother Jerry Burrows
Born and raised in Oshawa Ontario
Smart girl in school – pushed ahead 2 grades, quick with numbers and math.
Wanted to be a nurse but she was too young when she graduated
Met, fell in love with and married Bob Elston (1954)
Worked at Public Utilities Oshawa, Auto Workers Credit Union (30+ years – retired from there)
Mother to 4 wonderful independent children.
Grandmother to 6 amazing people
Great Grandmother to 8 spectacular humans.
Family loving, kind, caring, kind and considerate and thoughtful. (to her very end always encouraging us to “go have fun with our families” and leave her because “she is in the right place”
A pleasure to be around to her final days. Countless comments on how pleasant mother was everywhere we go – even in her darkest days.
Passions and Pastimes
Family and family events, never forgot a birthday or an anniversary.
Sunday suppers, roast beef, turkeys and summer BBQ on the back deck !!!!
Christmas Dinners and all the Christmas baking to go along with it such as, haystacks, shortbread cookies, fudge, Nanaimo bars,
A keen follower of the Royal Family and carried herself regally just like them. (I think the queen was her idol and role model)
Loved to read books – wore out the Oshawa public library. Always 3-5 books on the go.
Loved puzzles and games, jigsaw puzzles, crossword, sudoku, scrabble, bridge and euchre, 99 and rumoli just to name a few.
Music – Loved music, Church Choir, Oshawa Choral Society
Devoted United Church Parishioner, long standing member of the Choir @ Kingsview Church
Blue Jays !!! would watch or listen to every game good or bad season.
Final Thoughts
Mom always wanted the best for everyone for us - to enjoy getting together, sharing music or a few laughs and play some games.
She would want us to smile when we think of her and move forward with our lives happy in that she had a perfect life and was surrounded by love, family and friends to her last day.
Thank You Everyone. Please join us for refreshments and a snack in the reception hall downstairs.
