Paisiblement, entouré de ses proches.
Michel Ouimet, born May 28, 1950, died May 7, 2026
Peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones.
Michel is survived and will be dearly missed by his sister Monique and brothers Jean-Marc and André, his 7 children Jason, Marc-André, Marcus, Katherine, Elizabeth, Justin and Hayley, his 6 grandchildren and Dolores, with whom he built his wonderful life and family. Predeceased by his parents Francis and Alice Ouimet and his sister Madeleine.
Born in Sherbrooke Quebec, Michel was the youngest of 5 children. He loved his home province of Quebec and was very connected to the French community in Durham. Dolores and Michel came to Ontario in 1984. He wore many hats in his early careers and was a stay at home father for many years. As a mature student he completed his education as a Child and Youth Worker and joined the école secondaire St. Charles Garnier staff in 1995.
Michel was a strong advocate for youth experiencing struggles academically, socially or emotionally and was beloved by staff, students and parents from Garnier. He kept so many letters, drawings and tokens from his students over his many years that there can be no doubt those students meant the world to him. Michel retired in 2015 ending a long and impactful career that he loved dearly and was a great source of pride.
Michel had many interests and hobbies that he was incredibly passionate about including music, literature, films, and stamp collecting to name a few. He prioritized giving back to the community and was active in the Church, the French community, the school and the Knights of Columbus.
Michel was a determined man with strongly held convictions and a wonderful sense of humour. He loved to play board games and cards and was a stickler for the rules.
Without a doubt though, Michel was most proud of his family and his role as a father, foster parent and grand-papa. Michel and Dolores raised 7 children together and fostered children for over 25 years.
Trying to paint a picture of who Michel was is a daunting task as he meant so much to so many.
It is very difficult to say goodbye to our Papa but it is with great pride that we celebrate all that he gave us and others.
Papa, tu vas nous manquer et nous t'aimerons pour toujours.
