Richard Charles Nelson

It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Richard Charles Nelson, 82, of Whitby. Predeceased by his loving wife Bernice (nee Lethem), his parents Vera (nee Stryker), and Robert Nelson, and brothers Robert and Ralph Nelson. He will be lovingly remembered by his sons Brian Nelson; Ian Nelson (Amy), and adoring grandchildren Emma, Julia and Miles; his brothers Roy (Roxana), Roger and Rodney.

Rick was born at Toronto East General Hospital, the third of six sons. He spent his formative years in Scarborough then began a 30+ year career in insurance. His job took he and Bernice to Halifax where they welcomed both sons, then were transferred back to Ontario, settling in Whitby in 1980. Rick was an avid sports fan and for many years was a season ticket holder of his beloved Oshawa Generals hockey team. He was a doting grandfather to his three grandchildren, hosting epic Christmas celebrations for which he would begin procuring gifts the July prior.

He will be fondly remembered and profoundly missed by his family, friends and neighbours.

Visitation will be held at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West, (905-721-1234) on Wednesday, March 25 from 9:30 a.m. until time of Memorial Service in the Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Memorial donations to the Diabetes Canada or Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
