

Robert (Bob) Hoskins was a thoughtful man, wise and deeply spiritual. He was most trustworthy much loved by his family and friends, and earned the respect of those who knew him. Realistic about life, he was always at the ready, prepared to take on responsibility and faced life’s challenges face on.Bob was the son of Robert Charles and Alice Hoskins and grew up in Welling, Kent, England. Bob was the second born and only son in a family of six children. He grew up with five sisters Joyce, Gwen, Joan, Ann and Pat.As a young boy Bob enjoyed playing soccer, curious about the world around him and eager to explore it, usually on his bicycle.Bob was a loving family man, committed to doing the best for them. He was blessed with three daughters - Linda Carol, Mandy and Samantha, four grand-daughters - Shauna Marie, Sarah Dianne, Maddison Elizabeth and Hannah Maureen, as well as four great-grandchildren - Braden, William, Alexus and Ethan.Bob enjoyed his work at OPG, where he showed a strong work ethic and was much respected by everyone he worked with.Bob was a member of the British Royal Navy where he was involved during the building of the Suez Canal. He received several awards recognizing him for his service, including a medal for his Suez Canal participation. Bob was well liked and respected by his fellow sailors. Over the years he told many wonderful stories from his British Royal Navy days.Bob enjoyed his leisure time, most favourite hobby being gardening. Bob loved his garden and took immense pride in it. His favourite pursuits also included traveling, golfing and reading non-fiction. Bob enjoyed many wonderful travels to magical places around the world, one of his most favourites being an African Safari.Something of a sport enthusiast Bob enjoyed following his favourite teams whenever he had the opportunity, with golf, hockey, baseball and soccer at the top of the list. To celebrate his 70th birthday, in 2007 Bob threw the first pitch at the Blue Jays game. It was a perfect strike!! Bob also enjoyed curling and was a member of the OPG League Curling Club.Though he never set out to gain individual recognition, Bob was given accolades for his many and varied accomplishments throughout his life. Some of the awards he received included OPG Safety Awards.Bob loved animals and cherished his pets over the years and they in turn adored him.Bob passed away on November 30, 2009, peacefully at his home in Ajax as the result of a heart attack. He is survived by his loving wife Elena, his daughters Linda, Mandy and Samantha, his granddaughters Shauna, Sarah, Maddison and Hannah, and his great grandchildren Braden, William, Alexus and Ethan. A Celebration of Bob's life was held at the Oshawa Funeral Home Chapel.Simply stated, Bob was a good and kind person, with a heart of gold. He will for all time be lovingly remembered by his family as the wonderful and special person that he was. Bob leaves behind a wonderful legacy of life-long friendships and memories. He will be lovingly remembered by everyone whose life he touched through the years.We miss you and love you, and will forever hold you in our hearts!
