Shirley Anne Cox

With courage and grace to the very end, Shirley ended her battle with cancer on Saturday, October 1st, 2011 at Ross Memorial Hospital, Lindsay surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Oshawa in 1935 to the late Harold and Florence Godfrey. Loving mom of Laura (Alec), Joseph, Leanne, Carie (Mike), and the late Angela. Shirley was an adored Bubba of Adam, Kristopher, Sarah, Billy, Anthony, Cassandra, Brooke and Madison. She also leaves behind great grandson Nicholas, as well as sisters Sharon and Lynne, and other family members. Shirley was a proud and dedicated member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 43 for over 60 years, serving in the Royal Canadian Navy as well as the RCAF, where she was a Leading Air Woman. She loved many sports and was a dedicated official of the Ontario Softball Association. Visitation will be held at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West, Oshawa (905-721-1234), on Saturday, October 8th from 11:00 a.m. until time of Funeral Service in the Chapel at 1:00 p.m. Donations will be gratefully accepted for Hearth Place. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the caring and compassionate nursing staff at Ross Memorial Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, for their attention to Shirley and her family.
