My daughter Lana and I delivered the newspaper to Tom for many years. She made drawings, cards and sometimes cookies for him because visiting with Tom was always a highlight of doing our route. He was always kind and funny and up for a chat. We hadn't heard from Tom in a while after his move and were very sad to recently find news of his passing.  I'm sorry this message is so late, but Lana and I wanted to share our condolences to Tom's family. We hope that happy memories of him have helped comfort you over these past difficult months.

I am a fairly new member of the Church of the Ascension, however I met Tom at church. near the beginning.  i got to know Tom very easily because he was so friendly. Tom was always so welcoming with a smile and maybe a touch of the hand. I was very sad to hear of Tom's illness and his passing. I enjoyed seeing Tom at church each Sunday and I miss him along with many others who feel the same way.I feel very thankful that I had the privilege of knowing Tom.

We have many fond memories of Good Times shared with Tom and Shirley at the Tam Heather Curling club in Days Gone By.

I have attempted to write something here for many days now. And every day I end up giving up and putting it off until the next day – thinking I will have something better to say. But I have now come to the realization that I keep putting it off because if I finally finish writing this – it will mean it is real. That we have actually lost you – and that has been a hard thing to accept.

Uncle Tom (as I so affectionately called you) – you meant so much to me. From the time Lynette and I became close friends in Grade 3, you always made me feel like family. I have such fond memories of my time staying at your house after I moved away. We had so much fun trying to “out-prank” each other – short sheeting beds, putting salt on toothbrushes, having flour thrown in your face (I will always cherish that picture!). You always made me laugh and always made me feel welcome.

I will miss getting your sarcastic text messages during our rainy seasons asking if I have built my arc yet and if I am ready to move back. I will miss your constant teasing. I will miss you…

Mr. Greenwood, you will always be remembered for making us all laugh.  Going back to my junior high and high school days, I can still picture your wonderful face with that smart aleck grin.  More recently, I saw that hadn't changed despite all you went through.  No matter what, your warmth and connection to others shone through it all. You will be missed but never forgotten. My husband, Rob, and I enjoyed sharing a back fence with Tom and Shirley when they lived on Greenway Blvd in Port Perry. Such lovely people, We had many great visits. Tom would spray our kids with the hose in the summer! A very kind and funny man, and missed a lot. Our deepest condolences to his family.  

Mr Greenwood/Tom was such a super guy. I have fond memories from my high school days with Lynette, but my favourite memories were more recent. We loved teasing each other when we saw each other and I know he enjoyed getting teased almost as much as he enjoyed doing the teasing.  I first met Tom (Daddy Tom) when I joined the choir at Church of the Ascension. Tom was almost always the first person at rehearsal and was always warm, witty, and full of stories of days gone by. Tom embraced my quirkiness and introduced me to his late wife Shirley and later on to his family. He semi-adopted me so that over the next 13 years I boldly, but fondly, called him Daddy - which led to many a confused stare from others over the years. He was always up for a joke, our constant bass at choir, our champion photographer at all church events, and for me a wonderful and loving father figure. Rest in peace Daddy Tom. You will be sorely missed 🙏🏽🌹

Having met Tom and Shirley on a cruise through the arctic circle we have remained warm friends from as far away as we are in New Zealand. We have thoroughly enjoyed his lively e-mails about their travels and day to day life in general. We got to know a bit more about Canada and he New Zealand. We will miss his questions about my line of work and general comments on life in the North. I am sure we enjoyed each other’s interests. Una and I will certainly remember our association with Tom and miss him greatly.  

Loved curling against and with Shirley and Tom. They were such an asset to Tam. Fond memories!

Tom was always full of fun and will be missed by all. My condolences go out to the family. I will always have fond memories of both Tom and Shirley.  Many good times were had during our stay in Toronto.
