William John Winters

(December 29th, 1929 – June 14th, 2014)

Passed away peacefully with loving family by his side at Fairview Lodge on Saturday, June 14th, 2014. Beloved husband of Patricia for 49 years. Father of sons, James and Paul (Neva). Grandfather of Evan, Jordan, Casey and Garett. Brother of Laura, Stan, Tom, Tony and Chester. Predeceased by his parents, Marcel and Mary, his brother, Jim and his sisters, Jessie, Viola and Sophie. Bill will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. People whose lives were touched by Bill will remember him for his modest personality, great sense of humour (he gave everyone a nickname). He was fun loving, a true gentleman whose warm smile was so charismatic. Bill was a 43 year G.M. employee and founding member of Council 8611 Knights of Columbus-St. Mary. He held positions as Secretary Treasurer and President of Oshawa Thursday Night Men’s 10 pin bowling league, a sport of which he was very fond of. Bill was also a player, coach, manager and fan of baseball. In addition he enjoyed golf and card games, especially Euchre and Cribbage. Visitation will be held at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234) on Thursday, June 19th from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. GERTRUDE’S ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH (690 King Street East, Oshawa) on Friday, June 20th at 12:00 noon. Memorial donations to the Parkinson’s Society or the Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
