Jack A. Coleman

Jack A. Coleman, 81, was received into heaven on August 13, 2010. He was a son of the late Newt W. and Iva M. (Franklin) Coleman born on March 26, 1929 in Franklin Township, Owen Co., Spencer, IN. Jack graduated from high school in 1948 at Freedom, IN and joined the Army National Guard on April 15, 1948 at Spencer, IN. During the Korean Conflict, he transferred to the Indiana Air National Guard and retired at Baer Field, Ft. Wayne as a Master SGT in the spring of 1984. Jack was a 50+ year member of the American Legion with a current membership at Waynedale Post 241. He was a lifetime member of the Air Force Sergeant’s Association. He had been an active member in the Waynedale, Sonrise at Aboite, Ossian United Methodist, and Dunfee Missionary churches. Jack loved the outdoors all his life and as a young person enjoyed hunting, later he enjoyed to landscape not only his yard but also those of the churches at Ossian and Spencer, and he also spent his time volunteering on the election boards. Surviving family include his wife of 57 years, Katherine M. (Johnson) Coleman of Ft. Wayne; children Mark (Cathy) Coleman of Ossian and Mary Beth (Steven) Mauger of Ft. Wayne; grandchildren, Derek and Alexa Mauger both of Ft. Wayne; brother, Lloyd “Ed” ( Connie) Coleman of Spencer; and nephew Brian Coleman. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Doris. A funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday August 17, 2010 at the Ossian United Methodist Church with one hour of calling prior to services. Calling hours will also be from 2-4 and 6-8 on Monday August 16, 2010 at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home, 120 W. Mill St. Ossian, IN. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer, IN at 11:00 AM on Wednesday August 18, 2010. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, or Ossian United Methodist Church’s Building Fund.
