Obituary of Karen Vieth
Karen Virginia (Brown) Vieth of Ossian, IN, went to sing in heaven’s choir on Thursday, August 29. She was a gifted singer, teacher, speaker and administrator. Born April 17, 1946 to Manley (Mike) and Glynita (Nita) Brown in Flint, MI. She was a gifted athlete and singer from early childhood. Karen shared in music ministries through solos, duets, trios and choirs. She was very gracious in encouraging others in their gifts of ministry. She was a graduate of Bendle HS in 1964; she then attended the University of Michigan and then chose to become the wife of the Rev. Floyd E. Vieth, Jr. on September 4, 1965. After finishing his army stint at Fort Knox, KY, they served pastorates in Macungie, PA, Marshall, MI, Decatur and Yoder, IN. Karen organized and led a number of children’s ministries, taught all ages in Sunday School – especially loving the senior adults, directed choirs and led worship services. She served the Missionary Church, Inc., for a time as Director of Children’s Ministries. She was a member and attended the Hoagland Community Church, Hoagland, IN serving as one of the worship leaders. Karen worked part-time as a bookkeeper and bank teller until the children entered college, she worked as a secretary-receptionist at an insurance office. After receiving her own license, she served with a number of companies and brokerage firms before becoming an independent agent. She is survived by her husband, Floyd; son, Douglas (Melanie) of Bluffton, IN; daughter Toiyonna (Allen) Arias of Ft. Wayne, IN; son Terrill (Tammy) of Ossian, IN; six “great and fantastic” grandsons, Sandon and Kieran, Allen and Dante, and Payton and Athen; her mother Nita; sister and brother-in-law Janet and Duane Warden of Searcy, AR; and parent-in-laws Floyd and Lillian Vieth, Sr. of Paducah, KY. A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at Living Faith Missionary Church, 17718 Bluffton Rd., Yoder, IN with 1 hour of calling prior. Visitation will also be from 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, September 2, 2013 at the church. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Ossian, IN immediately following the service. Preferred memorials may be made to the Hoagland Community Church or to Heartland Hospice.
