Obituary of Raymond "Ray" D. Herman
Raymond “Ray” D. Herman, 86, of Ossian, Indiana passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2021. Born on August 7, 1935 in Allen County, a son of the late Walter S. and Sarah (Confer) Herman. Ray served in the U.S. Army Air Guard. He owned and operated Alton Combustion since 1971. Ray was an honorary member of the Maumee Valley Steam & Gas Association and a lifetime member of the Bricklayers Union. He enjoyed collecting antique tractors, farming with his dad and sons, midget racing, and most of all family gatherings. Ray is survived by his children, Deborah (Tim) Glenn, Beverly (Rick) Highlen, Linda (Nelson) Broman, Sheila (Nick Tyler) Meyer, Terry (Pamela) Herman, and Tony (Kelly) Herman; step-children, Dawn Hyde and James Henry; 19 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren. Also preceding him in passing was his wife, Clara (Carlisle) Herman; first wife, Carolyn Herman; step-daughters, Darla Henry and Donna Taylor; brothers, Donald and Edwin Herman; and sister, Mable McMillen. A funeral service will be held at 11am on Friday, November 12, 2021 at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home 120 W. Mill Street Ossian, Indiana 46777 with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be held from 2-4pm & 5-8pm on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at the funeral home. Burial to follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Maumee Valley Steam and Gas Association.
