
Thomas Brooks "Tom" Woodward, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated community member, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Born on July 4, 1938, in Ossian, Indiana, Tom lived a life marked by devotion to his family, faith, and community.
Tom was the cherished son of the late Weissel Brooks and Geraldine (Johnloz) Woodward. He spent his formative years in Ossian and remained deeply connected to his hometown throughout his life. A lifelong member of the Ossian Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Tom’s faith was a cornerstone of his life and guided his actions in service to others.
For over four decades, Tom worked at Magnavox, where he built a career defined by dedication and hard work. Beyond his professional endeavors, he was an active participant in shaping his community. Tom served on the Northern Wells School Board and the Ossian Town Board, contributing to the betterment of education and local governance.
Tom’s passions extended far beyond his career and civic duties. He was an avid gardener who found joy in nurturing plants and creating beauty through nature. His artistic spirit shone brightly through his love for art and woodworking. A voracious reader with a deep appreciation for history and genealogy, Tom delighted in uncovering stories of the past and preserving them for future generations.
A man of many talents and interests, Tom was also deeply involved in several organizations that reflected his values and hobbies. He was a proud member of Bluffton Lodge No. 145 F&AM and served as a 54-year Past Master of Waynedale Lodge No. 739. Additionally, he was affiliated with the Fort Wayne Scottish Rite and Wisdom Rose of Indiana Lodge of Free Gardeners. His passion for gardening led him to become a Purdue Master Gardener, while his love for genealogy inspired him to join the Wells County Genealogy Society.
Above all else, Tom treasured his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Mary Lou (Baughman) Woodward; their children, Cherese (Steve) Sells, Thomas II (Debbie), and Jeffrey; several grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life; and his brother, Fredrick (Vera). His legacy is one of love, kindness, and unwavering support for those closest to him.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday. April 17, 2026, at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home, 120 West Mill Street Ossian, Indiana 46777, with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at the funeral home with a Masonic service beginning at 7:00 pm. Tom will be laid to rest at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
Tom’s memory will be cherished by all who knew him—his family members who shared in his laughter and wisdom; friends who admired his dedication; and community members who benefited from his service.
