

She was born on May 19, 1918 in Binghamton, the daughter of the late William and Grace (Barlow) Brown.
Bertha married Raymond M. Briscoe on April 13, 1938 in Otego and they farmed on the Otsdawa in Otego for a number of years. Raymond passed away in July of 2004.
Bertha was noted for her cooking and baking. She was also a very crafty person with her handiwork of knitting and crocheting, and work that she did for the church.
She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Currie of Oneonta, Sydney (Richard) Beames of Afton, Penny (Gary) Hamilton of Sidney, Rae (Keith) McCurdy of Unadilla, and Jennifer (Jason) Burns of Otego; her sisters, Grace Brown of Schenectady and Doris Casey of Pennsylvania. Bertha is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service held at 2pm on Monday, December 8, 2014 at the Lighthouse Baptist Church, 1060 Covered Bridge Road, Unadilla. Interment will be in the spring in the Evergreen Cemetery in Otego.
