Raymond A. Bodie

Ray was born on June 23, 1929 in Oneonta, the son of the late Arden and Mabel (Dix) Bodie. On December 7, 1962 Ray married Barbara Krumal in Rotterdam, New York. The couple enjoyed 44 years of marriage until Barbara’s passing in 2007.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. Ray was medically discharged in 1951, and went on to drive delivery trucks for various businesses before he started his own business, a distributorship for the soda brand 7up. He was also a proud member of the Otego American Legion Post #1555.

Ray was a passionate hunter and fisherman. He really loved being in the outdoors, especially his hunting trips downstate to Red Hook and upstate to the Adirondacks. He also would spend a lot of time fishing at Black Lake. Being an avid sportsman, he was a member of the Otego and Unadilla Rod and Gun Clubs, Otsego County Federation of Sportsmen Clubs where he helped with the county fair displays and helped stock the local waterways with trout for the upcoming seasons. He was also a member of the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association and the National Rifle Association.

Ray is survived by his granddaughter, Jennifer Guinn, and her husband Timothy of Norwich; his daughter-in-law, Denise Mudge, and her husband Larry of Oxford; his sisters, Ruth White of Johnson City, and Ardyce De Salvatore, and her husband Joseph of Oneonta; his sister-in-law, Helen Krumal of Schenectady; his brother-in-law, Frank Krumal, and his wife Susi of Schenectady. He is also survived by many special friends, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara; and his three sons, Stephen, Douglas, and David Bodie.

A memorial service will be held at 11am on Friday, September 13, 2013 at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 34 River Street, Otego, with Ray’s nephew, the Rev. Gregory De Salvatore, officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta with military honors accorded to him.

In lieu of flowers, Ray’s family asks that charitable donations be made in his memory to the Otego Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 467, Otego, NY 13825 or to the New York State Veteran’s Home, c/o Resident Services, 4207 State Hwy 220, Oxford, NY 13830.
