Hope (Peterson) Shibley died on Monday, October 24, 2011. She is preceded in death by parents Raymond and Margaret Peterson, siblings Donald Peterson and Glenda Wilson, and her beloved husband, Al Shibley. She is survived by siblings Raymond Bruce Peterson, Helen Jackman and Margaret Ann Palmer; sons Dan Barney, Steve Barney and Scott Stanfield; five grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was born on January 24, 1948 in Provo, UT, the fifth of six children. She was raised in Orem, Utah and graduated from Orem High School in 1966. In her early years, she enjoyed a close relationship with her siblings, who all worked together on local farms. As a teen she was widely loved for her sparkling eyes and indomitable spirit. She liked to roller skate, dance and ride horses. At age 16 she was employed by JB's Big Boy, and later became their training manager which resulted in a transfer to Nevada and another to New Jersey. Hope's dedication and ambition quickly led her into upper management, then on to business ownership with her husband. Her career took her from New Jersey back to Utah, California, Arizona and finally Othello, Washington.
Hope and her husband purchased a ranch in Othello. Here she was able to revel in her lifelong passion: horses. She loved riding and camping with her family, and was a member of the Adams County Sherriff’s Posse. Hope was also an avid crafter, and one of her many creations recently won a blue ribbon at the Othello Fair.
Throughout her life and successful career, Hope remained genuinely devoted to her children, whom she adored and considered to be her most important accomplishment. She was a loyal friend who gave generously and selflessly to those in need. Her buoyant personality, infectious laughter and zeal for life will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on November 5, 2011 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Othello, WA.
