We are heartbroken to announce that our son, brother, grandson, cousin, nephew and friend, Second Lieutenant Alexander Filipps, aged 26, passed away suddenly on Dec. 31, 2025 from a rare cardiac event. This tragedy struck at a moment in Alex’s life when he stood ready to forge ahead, with all his intelligence, skills, and strengths. A graduate of Carleton University with a B.Sc. in computer engineering, he was preparing for a life with the Canadian Armed Forces with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals.
We will always remember Alex for his devotion to family and friends, his kindness, his sense of humour, and his enjoyment of debate, puzzles, and online gaming with friends. In addition to being an avid gym goer and climber, he loved music and played the piano, guitar, and bass.
The loss of a man so young, so smart, and so endearing is a tragedy that will live with us for the rest of our lives. He leaves behind mother Lisa and close family friend Sean; father and stepmother Ken and Selene; siblings Maddy, Hannah, Norah, Finn and Jakob; maternal grandparents Claire and John; paternal grandparents Colleen and Karl; and step-grandmother Susan. He will also be dearly missed by his close friends Manuel Osvaldo Lebron Flores, Karl Roscoe, and Abimbola Asaju, Emrys Gardiner, Kian Jones, Denis Tripes and Jakob Christensen.
A reception to celebrate Alex’s life will be held from 10:00 am to 10:30 am. Friends and loved ones are welcome to attend the reception that will be held from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm even if they are unable to attend the service
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or the charity of your choice.
