1927 – 2026
Audrey I. Stewart passed away peacefully at the Ottawa General Hospital on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at the age of 99.
Audrey will be lovingly remembered by her children, Mary Lynne (deceased Jim) Holton and Cheryl (Bob) Richardson, her grandchildren, Tara-Lynne (Nathan) Lockhart, Diana Holton, Laura (Jeremy) Holton, Lyall Richardson, and Lisa (Phil) Kibsey, and great-grandchildren, Grace, Cameron, Mataya, Brynn, and Zoe. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Lyall Stewart.
Audrey grew up on the Throop family farm in Algonquin, Ontario where she lived until marrying Lyall in 1948. They then resided in Frankville, Brockville and Ottawa before settling at the family cottage on Canonto Lake near Ompah from 1976 to 1997. Following Lyall’s passing, Audrey divided her time between the cottage and Ottawa to remain close to family.
Audrey lived independently until the age of 97 before moving to Maplewood Retirement Community. She enjoyed knitting, baking her famous Nanaimo bars and pies, and spending time at the cottage with family.
It seems fitting that Audrey passed away on Thanksgiving Sunday, a holiday celebrated for many years at the lake, surrounded by extended family.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Maplewood for their care and compassion.
A small gathering for family and friends will be held around what would have been Audrey’s 100th birthday in July 2027.
Memorial donations in Audrey's memory may be made directly to Diabetes Canada, the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority, or Rideau Park United Church.
