It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of George William “Bill” Davis on March 16, 2026, at the age of 87. Born in Ottawa on May 27, 1938, Bill was predeceased by his parents, Rolly and Grace Davis, and by his sister, Nancy, and brother-in-law, Walter Vaughan.
Bill will be dearly missed by his nephew and nieces, Norman Vaughan (Marie Tremblay), Beth Vaughan (John McDonough), Catherine Vaughan (Peter Vergas), and Christy Vaughan (Charles Swartz). He was a cherished great-uncle to Eric and Alex Vaughan, Christopher and Jackson McDonough, and Benjamin and Noah Swartz. He will also be remembered fondly by his many cousins, extended family, and friends in Ottawa, Smiths Falls, and throughout Canada.
Bill devoted many years of service to Hydro Ottawa. He was also a longtime member of Bromley Baptist Church in Ottawa, where he gave generously of his time as a dedicated volunteer. He was loyal to his family, dependable to his friends, and always eager to help his neighbours.
Bill was a legendary presence on the Lower Rideau Lake, where he spent every summer at the family cottage. He took great pride in maintaining it for the next generation and in preserving the legacy of his grandparents and parents.
Bill will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill’s memory may be made to Care Center Ottawa https://www.carecentreottawa.ca/, which supports the Food Rescue organization that he actively volunteered at each week through the church.
Friends and family are invited to gather for visitation on Friday, March 20 from 6–9 p.m. at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home in Ottawa (1411 Hunt Club Road, Ottawa). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 21 at 11 a.m. at Bromley Road Baptist Church (1900 Lauder Drive, Ottawa).
