I just read of your passing. I remember hanging out with you for a couple of weeks a year when my family and I would camp at Outlet Beach (Sandbanks) and your sister working in the concession. You and your family were so friendly. 
We'd collect golf balls at the driving range to earn the money to play mini putt. Go horse back riding up the road from your place.
Sink your dad's canoe (but retrieve it soon after).
Although I haven't seen you in 40 years, you will be missed.

I thank the good Lord above for the day I met Blake Ives  not to mention his parents, Marilyn & Jim, & his sister Lori. They are some of the finest people I've ever met, and I'm devastated for our loss of Blake. 

Blake, I'm sure you were in heaven for a good while before the Devil learned that he missed out on the best recruit for 2016.  

This is a celebration of Blake's life, so here goes This is what I celebrate when I think about Blake. I'd start with an irresistibly handsome (so the ladies tell me) hero of many campaigns; a leader and inspiration to many; one of the funnest guys you could ever hope to spend time with; a good fishing  camping  singing - general outdoors guy to learn a lot from (like his Dad); a person you could rely on for support and encouraging words of wisdom (like his Mom); someone you should never challenge unless you have an overwhelming advantage  NEVER when it comes to drinking JD up the nose!

Blake, it's amazing how many people have fantastic things to say about you. It's a credit to how you lived your life and the respect & affection you gave and inspired.

Blake my friend  We had lots of perfect summer days when we were young when school and any other concern seemed a County mile away I'm feeling like St Peter short-changed me by not saying Too early! and sending you back to us. I was looking forward to more perfect days on the other side of life. Ill miss you dearly. Be well my friend. You made a difference for everyone you met - here, and I'm sure you'll do the same in the Great Beyond.

In my mind he is still a little boy with great big eyes, relating a tale of his adventures in the woods or on the beach. My condolences to Marilyn, Jim, family members and Jackie. So many memories of our get togethers in Constance Bay. He was a big part of our family when the kids were growing up. Blake was a true inspiration to anyone who had the luck to ever meet him. On some tough training during Battle School to recovering from ACL surgery together, Blake was always able to offer that extra strength he always seemed to have. Today the world is a lesser place, but somewhere Blake is still giving that strength.

I will miss you my brother. We certianly had some times. It was an honor to have you as a true friend.

Blake made it fun to be a soldier. I remember him as a fellow private teaching us songs to sing while on the way to the rifle range in the back of an MLVW. And he used to say something like this: "If you're going to bark like the big dogs, you have to learn to run with them too." So many stories I could tell....

Condolences to the Ives family at this time. Blake will be missed by all VP brothers.

It was my honour to have served with Blake in 1PPCLI. He embodied the principle of leadership by example both on and off duty. It was also very clear that he understood that his primary role as a senior NCO was to teach, guide and mentor junior NCOs and soldiers and he did that with skill and expertise. A man and a solder you could count on every time, he will be missed.

Blake trained Me as a Sniper and 11 years later he trained my son and gave him the skills to return home safely from Afghanistan.  He was always there for you both as a friend and as a Soldier.  His legacy will always be felt by the Canadian Sniper community, he will be missed.  RIP Sniper.

I am one of the few still left that started my career with Blake back in Cornwallis in 1987 and then though Battle school and onto the PPCLI. In those 30 years it has been my greatest honour to call Blake my friend. I am deeply saddened for your loss and the loss we as his friends must now live in a world without him. Learning of the sudden, unexpected death of Blake Ives, that gung-ho Patricia, prompted me to put up an authentic page of my actual self in order to say my piece about this beloved, dedicated soldier. Last nite I reflected on the good times we shared in both Battle School and Battalion, and I penned an inferior but true poem in his honor.

FAREWELL, FELLOW PATRICIA

O Canada, Blake Ives stood guard for thee.
 He had your back, you had a patriot.
 You gave him Cause, he loved to carry it.
 O Canada, unfurl your flag for Blake.
 O Patricia, unfurl your colors too.
 He marched for you, he fought for you.
 He served your home, he waged your war.
 Close friends will know, his motto was:
 "Play hard, work hard;
 Bark like big dogs, run with them too."
 It's what he used to say,
 It's what he used to do.
 He taught us words to sing
On backs of army trucks.
 He made esprit de corps
