Born November 28, 1923, he was the son of the late Emily and John James Bowering. Cyril was born in London, England, arriving in Canada to pursue a successful career with the federal government in 1952 as an electrical design technologist. Cyril was a loving father to seven children and devoted husband to the late Dorothy Bowering. Cyril's interests were many and varied. He loved golf, curling, cycling, skiing, swimming, fishing, camping, cooking and travelling. He adored many genres of music and he was, in his own right, a craftsman, having designed and built almost all of his own furniture. Cyril enjoyed many adventures throughout his life, but also looked forward to taking part in simple pleasures, such as sharing a frothy cold pint with friends and family at his favorite watering hole. Cyril lived life to the fullest every day.
Surviving are his children, Ann Bowering, Paul Bowering ( Bonnie), Christine Fujikawa, Michael Bowering, David Bowering, Jill Blakely, and Neil Bowering; grandchildren, Stephen, Kim, Caroline, Sean, Karen, Jennifer, Timothy, Radhika, Rama John, Rachel, Lucas and Christopher. Many great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A memorial gathering, to celebrate Cyril’s life, will be held Tuesday, June 13, 2017 between 2 and 4 PM, with words of remembrance at 3 o’clock, in McEvoy Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road at Albion Road. Friends are welcome to share stories and partake of refreshments.
The family also invite friends to share in a toast to Cyril after the gathering from 4-6 pm at Ogrady's Outpost, 25 Tapiola Crescent.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Glebe Centre Long Term Care Facility, 77 Monk Street, Ottawa, Ontario, K1S 5A7.
