After sharing his life with us and living it passionately for 72 years, Dave died on Sunday, April 24th. Those of us most grateful for his life and saddened by his leaving are wife Pam; daughters Donna, Maureen, Erin, Paige and Laine, son Keith; brother Jim (Judie); grandkids Dagan, Morgan and Adrian, mother-in-law Win, brother- and sister-in-law Ian and Marilyn, as well as special nieces and nephews. He also leaves steadfast friends Mike and Jane, Guy, Bobbee and many great buddies, including some furry ones. Dave was predeceased by his parents, Bill and Irene Shaw. In his career with the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Dave travelled the globe, was posted to Ankara and Washington (twice), rose from clerk to commerce officer, and completed a degree from Carleton University along the way. He was remarkable for his optimism, his determination, and his signature chuckle. Who can measure a man in death, except by the memories he has left? Dave has left us the best of memories. We thank all the medical staff and caregivers whose help gave us extra months together. Visitation Monday, May 2 at 1:00 p.m., McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road, (at Albion Road) followed by memorial service at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel. In memoriam donations, welcome to a charity of your choice or to one of Dave’s favourites: The Salvation Army; Harvest House; or the Ottawa-Carleton Humane Society. Online condolences may be sent to Mcevoy-Shields.com
