OBITUARY
Douglas Stephen White
October 22, 1945 – January 13, 2021
We are saddened to announce the sudden passing of Douglas White at the Ottawa General Hospital at the age of 75 years. Predeceased by his parents Stephen and Beryl White. Loving husband of Chrystiane Gauvin for 52 years. Dear father of Christopher and Kevin (Marcy). Survived by sister, Nancy Weatherdon (late Robert). He will be greatly missed by Noah, Josh and his many nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Doug retired as a Major Crime Officer with the Ottawa Police after 33 years, and later was a Background investigator for the Ottawa Police. Doug enjoyed playing euchre with many groups he belonged to and was still playing hockey with some fellow retired police officers. Due to pandemic restrictions, there will be private family arrangements. A celebration of Doug`s life will be held at a later date, once the restrictions are lifted.

Don and I will always remember Doug as a gentle giant with witty humor and respectful strength as an Ottawa Police officer. The best hockey coach ever to his beloved sons.

To the family , Helga and I wish to express our deepest sadness and condolences. Although it has many, many years, while growing up with Doug I was always impressed how Doug reflected the grace and patience of his Dad. When he entered a room he captured your attention with his kindness and caring spirit. He gave Helga and I a Police test for how well you follow instructions. Sadly, I failed but Helga was approved. He was very kind to me and my wife, Helga. I will miss Doug. His life counted for good.

Dear Chris and family, we were shocked and so very saddened to hear of Doug's passing. He was such a great friend, a good and decent man and more than anything else an outstanding human being. I was lucky enough to have been one of Doug's euchre teammates for the last 10 years or so and I will always remember fondly all the great laughs and good natured kidding and joking around we so looked forward to. He was an avid sports fan and loved his Ottawa 67's and Senators. The fun took on new heights when the 4 four of us along with Kathy and Joe Foley formed a his and hers set of teams at the Bells Corners six-hand euchre league. How we so enjoyed it when the girls played against the guys. Doug will forever be missed by everyone who knew him.

Our Dear Chrystiane, Chris, Kevin and Marcy, Noah and Josh and Dear Nancy: Words do not come easily today. We feel privileged to have known, or in our case been related to, Dougie. Doug was faithful with phone calls and always ready with offers of help. He knew how to tease too, and we loved him for all of that. We will continue to share stories from over the years, and will cherish our memories of Doug forever. We hold you all close in our thoughts and our hearts. With love to all, Dorothy and Joan

He was an example of what a Police officer should strive for, I worked with him in the days they had a morality division. He had a gentle approach to the poor souls he encountered. Always patient and polite. A great mentor for anyone who had the fortune to work alongside him. Sincere condolences to his family.
