KARAISKOS, Eleni, "Helene" fell asleep in the Lord, peacefully at home with her family by her side, on Saturday, February 1, 2020. She was 83. Beloved wife of the late Efstathios Karaiskos for 52 years. Loving mother of Panayiota, Vivian (Christian Dugas), and Nicholas (Christina Doche). Proud Yiayia of Melanie, Zachary, Eleni, Alexia and Jonathan.
Predeceased by her brothers Zacharias, Apostolis and Dimitris, Eleni will be deeply missed by her brother Yiannis, sister Loula and extended family in Greece.
Eleni was a talented and sought-after seamstress who loved to sew and put enough mileage on her beloved Singer sewing machine to travel the world twice over. She was a hard-working and gentle soul who was also a force to be reckoned with. In her final weeks, she showed an unparalleled strength of will that amazed all who cared for her. Eleni will be remembered for her Betty Rubble laugh, her wit and her love and devotion to family.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who looked after our mother, including Siobhain for her caring concern and diligence; Jennifer, Yaroslava, Aroma, and Beatrice for their exceptional nursing care; and Sally and Sandra, for their kindness and daily support. We were also blessed for the loving and compassionate care provided by Dr. Shamim Taherzadeh. And we offer our sincere gratitude to Father Alex Michalopoulos and Father Maxym Lysack for their multiple visits, prayers and spiritual guidance.
Family will receive friends at the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church (1315 Prince of Wales Drive) on Thursday, February 6 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, with Trisagion Prayers at 7:00 pm, as well as on Friday, February 7 from 10:00 to 10:30 am, followed by the Funeral Service at 10:30 am.
Interment to take place at Beechwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Hellenic Community of Ottawa (Greek Orthodox Church) or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
