Fernande (Trudeau) Pelletier

La famille de Fernande Pelletier a le regret de vous annoncer son décès, survenu à Gatineau le 12 février 2025, à l’âge de 95 ans. Elle était atteinte d’une longue maladie neurodégénérative. Elle était la fille de feu Félix Henri Trudeau et de feu Bernadette Danis. Elle était l’épouse des regrettés Roland J. Colonnier (1962) et Guy Yves Pelletier (2024) et la mère du regretté Paul M. Colonnier (1999). L’ont précédé, sa sœur Jacqueline Trudeau et deux frères décédés en bas âge. Elle était aussi la sœur d’un frère adoptif. Fernande laisse dans le deuil sa fille Louise Colonnier, son fils Jean Yves Pelletier, quatre petits-enfants, trois arrière-petits-enfants, ainsi que plusieurs neveux et nièces.

Née à Papineauville, Québec, le 24 avril 1929, elle s’initia dès son jeune âge au chant, au piano et au violon. Après des études à l’Académie Sainte-Marie (Haileybury) et à l’École supérieure de musique de Nicolet, Fernande Trudeau a obtenu un diplôme du Conservatoire royal de musique (grade d’associée), Université de Toronto, en 1949. Elle a remporté le premier prix au Festival de musique Kiwanis en 1950 et a enseigné la musique dans les écoles de Kirkland Lake. Après avoir vécu à Kapuskasing et à Eastview (Vanier) pendant les années de son premier mariage, Fernande s’installa à Ottawa. Elle travailla au bureau de l’économe de l’Université d’Ottawa (1962-1963) et à la Bibliothèque publique d’Ottawa au bureau de référence des succursales Rideau (1964-1977) et Alta Vista (1977-1987), ainsi qu’au comptoir de service public de la succursale centrale.

Fernande aimait recevoir à sa maison d’Ottawa et elle était reconnue pour être une excellente cuisinière. Elle possédait de bonnes facultés d’écoute qui lui ont gagné l’amitié de plusieurs. Elle a apprécié la lecture, les voyages, le bénévolat (Hôpital général d’Ottawa), ses hivers passés en Floride, ses parties de bridge (au Centre de jour Guigues et au condo Riviera) et son temps libre avec sa famille et ses amies. Fernande passa ses années de retraite au condo Riviera (Ottawa) et à la résidence Chartwell Cité-Jardin (Gatineau).

La famille désire remercier les membres du personnel de la résidence pour retraités Cité-Jardin (tout particulièrement de la Phase IIIb) et du Centre d’hébergement La Pietà (4e étage nord) pour l’attention et les bons soins prodigués pendant de nombreuses années. Un merci spécial à toute l’équipe de la Pietà, nommément Francine St-Pierre et ses collègues Cédrine, Jessica, Yvonne et Isabelle, ainsi que Ruthlie.

Les arrangements funéraires ont été confiés à la maison funéraire Racine, Robert et Gauthier, 180, chemin de Montréal, Ottawa. Un service commémoratif aura lieu à une date ultérieure. Inhumation future au cimetière Notre-Dame, Ottawa.

Des marques de sympathie peuvent se traduire par des dons à la Société Alzheimer du Canada, la Société Alzheimer Outaouais ou à la Société de la démence d’Ottawa et du comté de Renfrew.

The family of Fernande Pelletier regrets to announce her passing, which occurred in Gatineau on February 12, 2025, at the age of 95. She had suffered from a long neurodegenerative illness. She was the daughter of the late Félix Henri Trudeau and the late Bernadette Danis. She was the wife of the late Roland J. Colonnier (1962) and Guy Yves Pelletier (2024) and the mother of the late Paul M. Colonnier (1999). She was predeceased by her sister, Jacqueline Trudeau, and two brothers who passed away in infancy. She was also the sister of an adoptive brother. Fernande is survived by her daughter, Louise Colonnier, and her son, Jean Yves Pelletier, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Born in Papineauville, Quebec, on April 24, 1929, Fernande developed an early interest in singing, piano, and violin. After studying at the Académie Sainte-Marie (Haileybury) and the École supérieure de musique de Nicolet, she earned an Associate Diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music, University of Toronto, in 1949. She won first prize at the Kiwanis Music Festival in 1950 and went on to teach music in schools in Kirkland Lake. After living in Kapuskasing and Eastview (Vanier) during the years of her first marriage, Fernande settled in Ottawa. She worked at the treasurer’s office of the University of Ottawa (1962-1963) and at the Ottawa Public Library in the reference departments of the Rideau (1964-1977) and Alta Vista (1977-1987) branches, as well as at the central branch’s public service desk.

Fernande loved hosting gatherings at her home in Ottawa and was known for being an excellent cook. She had strong listening skills, which earned her many friendships. She enjoyed reading, traveling, volunteering (at the Ottawa General Hospital), spending winters in Florida, playing bridge (at the Guigues day centre and the Riviera condo), and cherishing time with her family and friends. Fern spent her retirement years at the Riviera condo (Ottawa) and the Chartwell Cité-Jardin residence (Gatineau).

The family would like to thank the staff members of the Cité-Jardin retirement residence, particularly those in Phase IIIb, and the care team at the La Pietà long-term care home (4th floor north) for their attention and dedicated care over many years. A special thank-you goes to the entire team at La Pietà, especially Francine St-Pierre and her colleagues Cédrine, Jessica, Yvonne, and Isabelle, as well as Ruthlie.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Racine, Robert & Gauthier Funeral Home, 180 Montreal Road, Ottawa. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Future interment will take place at Notre Dame Cemetery, Ottawa.
