Gertrude "Reggie" Elizabeth Moriarty

MORIARTY, Reggie (Gertrude)

Reggie slipped away on a sunny June afternoon with family by her side, her love of life undiminished to the end. Left behind are daughter Deborah (Mitch Vlad), son Don (Deryl); grandkids Elliot (Tamara Bond), Sean (Helen Russo) and Alexander Vlad, Ryan and Brodie Moriarty; plus great grandkids Alexis, Victoria, Devin, Avery, Cameron and Teagan; cousin and good friend Mariana Bucur; and Blaze, her fiercely loyal rescue dog.

Heart-wrenching for all to lose such a generous, compassionate and loving friend. She herself knew loss, having been predeceased in 1988 by wonderful husband John who had served in the Royal Canadian Navy and National Defence, and in 1983 by elder daughter Patricia (Fling).

Reggie (who could not abide Gertrude), was the daughter of RCMP Sergeant Oscar Regimbald and Delisca Potvin of Sarsfield, Ontario. Typical of her generation, she was resilient and determined with uncompromising integrity.

She was a life-long care-giver, who with friend and business partner Sue Boudreau, established and successfully ran day care centres for 43 years.

We were so fortunate to have her in our life. She taught us all how to live and love. We now have the privilege of her walking into our memories where she will stay forever.

Visitation at McEvoy-Shields, 1411 Hunt Club July 2nd, from 6-8:30 pm. Funeral Mass Wednesday July 3rd, 11:30 am at Canadian Martyrs, 100 Main Street, followed by reception and interment at Notre Dame Cemetery.

In Reg’s honour, please consider donations to the ALS Society of Canada.

Your wonderful mom - Deb I am so very very sad for you today. You and your Mom had such a special relationship. How lucky for you both that you were able to share so much time together. I am sad that the past while has been so difficult. The laughter and conversations changed but the love and giving continued. Your mom was a remarkable lady. I held her in such high esteem and only wished that I could have spent more time with her. I remember how gentle she was with your dad. I could feel the care they had for each other each time we met. I am glad you have your family to share the happy times and the sad times together with. Please know You are all un my thoughts and prayers. Love and hugs.

Debi, lovely picture. You were a wonderful daughter and I know you will miss your mom very much. She was such a caring lady. You will so many memories. Now at least she is at peace but you are faced with the loneliness after all your time caring for your mom. I know I loved the time I was able to care for my mom. Like Reggie she was such a lady. Wish we could have helped you more. Maybe sometime later we can get together with you and Peggy and Morna and salute our moms.

Jess and I just wanted to send our sincere condolences. I'm sure you're getting an outpouring of support right now. Gertie was such a loved woman and she touched so many people, myself included. Honestly, I'm not sure what to say. I loved Gertie. She was amazing and she always made me feel like the most important person in the room. That feeling is how I'm remembering her now. I'm grateful that every time I think of her I'll get to feel that way again. That's a gift not everyone could give but she's given that to me and I love her for it. Our thoughts are with you.

Theresa and I were deeply saddened to learn of your loss. The death of a parent is one of the most painful experiences and must have been all the more heartbreaking for you and others given her ALS. I think having a loving family by her would certainly have been a great comfort. With time, the pain of the loss will wane and fond memories will surface more frequently and more strongly and so provide comfort. You and your family are in our thoughts and hopes for an easing of the pain. With warm hugs,
Gregory and Teresa Kostrysky

Toni and I were saddened to learn of the death …………. she was a remarkable woman. No matter how inevitable the end of life can be, it still hurts when the Grim Reaper arrives.‎ But hopefully the memories help accelerate the emotional healing.
