Dear uncle to Christine (Steve) and Christopher. He will be missed by many cousins, extended family and friends.
His father worked for Borden's Dairy for 45 years until his retirement in 1965. Following into his father's footsteps, he landed his first job as a milkman for Borden's Dairy working alongside his dad "Pops" delivering milk in a horse and wagon. In 1958, he joined the Ottawa Health Department after graduating from the Ontario Public Health Inspectors Training Course at Ryerson Institute of Technology. He had a distinguished career as a Public Health Inspector and after 33 years of service, he retired as a Section Chief Public Health Inspector in 1991. Prior to his retirement, he opened up a successful chip truck business which he considered to be a "family business". He continued for several years to work on the chip truck along with his family members.
Gilles enjoyed 33 years of retirement spending much of his time with his family who was everything to him. He had a love of curling and in 1972 served as President of the Cumberland Curling Club. He also managed Three Buoys Houseboats for several years in the 1990s. We will miss his famous long-winded speeches "on behalf of the group, I would like to say a few words", his great sense of humour, endless words of wisdom, practical jokes, countless stories of his upbringing and his joie de vivre that lifted the spirits of those around him.
It was evident for all those who knew Gilles how important family was to him. He lived life to the fullest and often reminded us throughout the years of what a good life he had.
A memorial service will be held on March 19, 2025, at 11:00 am at The Faustina Parish, 2571 Ottawa Regional Road 174, Cumberland, Ontario followed by a reception in the basement of the church.
