

He was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend of 58 years Margaret Rose. A devoted and loving father he leaves behind his daughter Amber (Brent) and was the very proud grandfather of Ashton and Carys.
Garth was raised in Mirror, Alberta where he had the opportunity to join the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) at the age of 16. His distinguished service as a RCEME Officer spanned over 39 years until his retirement in 1994. Following his retirement from the CAF, he continued his service to Canada as a public servant with the Department of National Defence. Over the years, he contributed to numerous initiatives, most notably serving as Project Manager for the Light Armoured Vehicle (LAV) program until his final retirement in 2014.
Garth was a sports enthusiast who participated in many over the years, but his happy place was on the golf course where in his later years you could find him at Hylands Golf Club.
Garth's life was one truly well lived. He will be remembered for his quick wit and friendly nature which will leave a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
His family would like to thank the Waterford Retirement Community staff, for providing a comfortable and caring environment.
A celebration of Garth's life will be held on Friday, February 20, 2026 from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road, Ottawa, ON. Memory sharing to be held at 3:00 pm.
