

MacKenzie (nee Nieforth), Helen Jean – 89, Limoges, Ontario, formerly of Russell, ON, and Halifax and Seaforth, Nova Scotia, peacefully passed away Friday, Dec 20, 2024 at St. Viateur Long Term Care Home, with Daughter Heather MacKenzie and Son-in-law Allan McDonald (Russell) at her side.
Born in Seaforth, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Edith (James) Nieforth. Following her retirement from Hermes Electronics, Dartmouth, NS, Helen and her late husband Harvey, kept busy volunteering, and making and selling pickles and jams. In later years, she enjoyed going on cruises, the move to Russell, attending Toronto Blue Jays games, reading, doing Lexicons, and spending many hours in the gazebo. Helen took pleasure in visits with her granddaughter Kayla MacKenzie (Halifax), step-grandchildren Kate (Antoine), and James (Julie-Anne), and step-great grandchildren Alex, Dave and Chuck, and extended family and friends. She embraced the move to St. Viateur LTC home where she kept busy watching her Blue Jays, participating in activities, doing her hobbies, and in her role as the Residents President. In addition to her husband Harvey, she was predeceased by her son Daniel, sister Inez (Ward) and brother Laurie. She is also survived by her sister-in law Betty, daughter-in-law Susan, and numerous nieces and nephews. Heather and Allan would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of St Viateur for their compassionate care while Helen was a resident and most especially for their end-of-life care.
Cremation has taken place. A life well-lived, Helen's Celebration of Life will be held at St Mary's Anglican Church, Russell, on January 18, 2025 at 2pm.
An Interment Service will be held at All Apostles By The Sea Anglican Church, Seaforth, on January 25, 2025 at 2 pm.
