Surrounded by her beloved, the matriarch of our family, Hélène Saadé (née Rahal) peacefully passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2024 (Palm Sunday) at the remarkable age of 98. She was born on August 20, 1925 and raised in Beirut, Lebanon and immigrated to Canada in the early seventies with her beloved late husband, Menwar Saadé. Together, with love and devotion, they raised their family in a new country and immersed themselves within the local Lebanese community. Hélène worked hard with her family and built a successful business with her son, George (Saadé Development Group International). Hélène leaves behind a great legacy. She was incredibly generous, kind, and humble – never missing an opportunity to help a friend, donate to local charities or to cook delicious homemade meals to share with her loved ones. She was a light to all those around her and always went out of her way to care for others.
She is survived by her children, George Saadé (Teri), Leila Haddad (late Robert), Esmahan Najem (late Joseph), Maya Haddad (Victor), Jeanne D’Arc Saadé (late John), and Carol Fernandes (John). She is predeceased by three of her sons, the late Jahâed Saadé, Fadi Saadé and, Nemer Saadé,. Dear sister of General Elie Rahal (Liliana) and predeceased by her four other siblings, the late Joseph Rahal (Claire), Antoine Rahal (Ivonne), Violet Rahal and, Ivonne Rahal (Fouad).
Cherished grandmother of Jayhâed Saadé, Shanelle Saadé, Daniel-Fadi Saadé, Tony El-Khoury (Noura), André El-Khoury (Silvia), Nicole Haddad (Hany), Sandra Haddad (Trevor), Cynthia Haddad, Imad Najem (Nathalie), Johnny Najem (Marie), Carole Fawcett (Randy), Christopher Najem, Fadia Verchere (Steve), Grace Marina, Christine Haddad (Chadi), Joey Haddad (Jessica), Randy Haddad (Rachel), Jessica Pacheco, Tracy Pacheco, Jesse Fernandes (Jessica) and, Ashley Fernandes (Taylor).
Adored great-grandmother of Nicholas El-Khoury, Nathan El-Khoury, Milana El-Khoury, Emma Nourieh, Rebecca Campbell (Kyle), Sara Najem, Jonathan Najem, Alyssa Fawcett, Carson Fawcett, Avery Fawcett, Liam Wilcox, Hadi Atwi, Mariam Atwi, Christian Naoum, Cadeo Badr, Capri Badr, Adonis Haddad, Réa Haddad, Rella Haddad, Kaïa Fernandes and the beloved great-great grandmother of William and James Campbell.
Hélène will be missed by many cousins, relatives, extended family members and friends within the United States, Canada, Lebanon and Europe.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, April 4 and Friday, April 5 for visitation from 4-9 p.m. at McEvoy-Shields funeral home (1411 Hunt Club Road). The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 6. Final viewing and prayers from 8:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at McEvoy-Shields. Church service at 10:15 a.m, Saint Peter and Paul Melkite Catholic Church (1611 North River Road). Following the funeral service, close family and friends are invited to gather for the burial at Hope Cemetery at 11:45 a.m. (4660 Bank Street). In lieu of flowers, if you wish to provide memorial donations, please consider donating to St. Peter and Paul Melkite Catholic church.
