Dear Lyn.  My thoughts are with you and your children.  Hugh was a wonderful man.  I have so many memories of our times together in high school and university.  I have thought about you both so often as the years have gone by.

Lyn, It is difficult to know exactly what to say at a time like this.  Please know know that both Harry and I send our deepest sympathy, and our hearts are truly saddened by Hugh's passing.  May the love of those around you help you through the days ahead.  You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Lyn:

I just heard heard about Hughie's passing and I'm so sorry.  We at the club were just talking about him and his hole-in-one on Predator 15.  He'll be missed by me and the rest of us at the club.  Hope you are doing as well as possible in these trying days.  Our thoughts are with you.

I have good memories of brushing up against Hugh over my many years at DIAND, especially of his intense and fun-loving competitivness at the annual departmental golf tournament. His inaugural hole-in-one at GreyHawk, on #15 Pred, is often remembered within my groups. Teeing off one windy day on Predator #16, a ball from #15 tee nearly got me - I did not have to look across to discover who tried mightily for his 2nd ace. A good man, a courteous, friendly and altogether impeccable golfing companion. A gentleman, through and through, on and off the course.

My depeest sympathies to Hugh's family.  I had occasion to work with Hugh at the Department of Indian Affairs over the years and always found him to be eager to help, very knowledgeable and especially caring about the Aboriginal people he served. I am saddened by his passing and know he will be missed.

Dear Lynn and family,  I came across the obituary today.  We were at 10 Pittaway briefly and enjoyed having you as neighbours.  Such a long time ago, Courtney is now 23 and Ryan 21. Dear Ryan Family,

I am so sorry that you have lost Hugh.  I had known him since starting at INAC in the late 1990s as a student.  We again ended up working alongside each other a number of years later and in fact Hugh tried his hardest to get me onto his team.  Although we weren't able to actually work together after all, our offices were side by side and we enjoyed many great afternoon chats about work, life, studies, travel, you name it.  Hugh was such a delight and a bright spark in the office.  He was always chipper, keen, upbeat, positive and a great chum.  He had provided me with some legal insight into a personal matter one time for which I gave him a Christmas Cactus as a token of my appreciation - he took it home and frequently gave me updates on how well it was doing!  You'd think it was a pet i.e. 'Elizabeth, you should see how big the cactus is now - it's growing new shoots all over the place, it's just gorgeous!!'  He seemed so proud of that plant.  I think it just went to show how much he appreciated even the smaller details in life.  Indeed, he was a very sweet soul and I've greatly missed seeing him around.

I know you all must have wonderful memories of him - I hope they give you much comfort in the days ahead.

Hughie and Family: My deepest sympathies on the loss of your father. I know the loss you must be feeling as I just recently lost my father to Pancreatic Cancer in March of this year at the age of 61. So I know that words don't always help but I wanted you to know how deeply your father has touched my life. Because of your dad, I have a a great career at Indian and Nothern Affairs which I love. I also met my husband whom I adore while working at INAC and we recently had our first child, our 8 month old daughter Shyla Rain who was born just 5 days after we lost my dad and who we are so grateful to have in our lives.
