James David Murphy

Son of the late James Murphy and Loyola MacKell, brother of Patrick and the late Valerie Grimes and Judith McKinney. James shared a 54 year marriage filled with travel, sports, family and lots of social events with the late Sybil Turner. He will be deeply missed by his children — Pamela (Rolly), Julia (Brian), Sally Morency (Ron), grandchildren — Jordan (Adriana), Madeleine (Kurt), Natalie, Brendan (Alicia), Dalen, Sam, Kate, great-grandchildren — Ava, Jett, many nieces and nephews, and those remaining, of the many friends who enjoyed his warm and bright personality and clever wit.

James was born and raised in Ottawa, spending many summers in Tenaga as a child and adult. He was an avid athlete, excelling in football with St. Pat’s and the Ottawa Seconds and enjoying many years of skiing, tennis, and golf, here and around the world. He had a long and rewarding career with Bell Canada and pursued exotic travels as a consultant with Bell Canada International. He cherished many, many lifelong friendships formed throughout his fantastic journey.

Visitation will take place on December 6, 2023 from 3:00 to 4:00 pm at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home (1411 Hunt Club Rd. Ottawa), followed by a Celebration of Life in the funeral home chapel at 4:00pm. A reception will follow. Cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Dementia Society of Ottawa would be greatly appreciated.
